I thought that I'd share what happened today. Saturday I did a 60 min, row and did a new personnal best of 13, 025 m and yesterday a pb in 500m of 1:46.5. Today I thought that I would just do 30 min for a little exercise. Without even pushing it I did a new pb of 6864m. To me that is dramatic that I've improved from early December 2004 and 4216m. Ray,<br /><br />Great results.<br /><br />I would guess that you are fairly new to indoor rowing and so are seeing the rapid benefits of improvements in technique, fitness, pacing and just getting used to the whole thing.<br /><br />When I started last November I too found that I was able to attain new PBs practically every time which is very uplifting. What I am now disciplining myself to do is to work more at a level below maximum and so really start to build up technique, efficency and fitness. I can measure this by seeing that my results training in this way are as good, if not better, than previous flat out PB stuff. <br /><br />For example my steady 60 min row yesterday was at around 75% MHR but was done at a 2:00 split so I covered 15,000m which is not that far short of my posted PB. What I expect to see happen is that in time as I become better I will be able to exceed my posted PB whilst staying at the 75% MHR. Then it will be time to post a new PB. <br /><br />I tend to use HR as a training aid and initally concentrated on the UT2/UT1 work (see the training guide on the UK site) but have now started to add in someharder AT work.<br /><br />Remember, training speed is different to race speed as each has separate objectives, but keep taking pride and encouragement from those PBs. It is great isn't it to be able to progress quickly up the performance curve. (Just think of all those poor people right at the top of it who need to work so hard, for so long, just to progress a little further -hang on, isn't that the position that ultimately I am working towards!)

Hey Neil,<br /><br />I do the same - that is look at HR for a distance to monitor improvement.<br /><br />I often divide metres by pulse to get metres per heartbeat and use that to compare pieces.<br /><br />My best ever is 1.77m per pulse fr a 5000m piece.<br /><br />I believe the serious rowers get more than 2m per heartbeat.<br /><br />Bill<br /><br /><br /><br />
