This week I lost a whole HALF a pound, and am rotten glad of it!! HOORAY!!!

Some folks may think this is a small accomplishment, but with a stubborn metabolism like I have, losing half pound is a big deal. Just LOVE it when those digits go down on the scale.

So now my "weight-to-date loss" for the January Challenge 2 pounds. The other day, my Chiropracter made a comment that my pants are a lot looser in back, thanks to all the Ducks for their motivation.

Keep pulling that chain, everybody! Rubber Ducky

Rubber Ducky,

That's great that you lost another half a pound! Way to go! I lost around half a pound/week last year although some weeks I never lost anything at all. I ended up losing 22 pounds in the year. So although we may not think so, all those "little" losses of half a pound here and there, do add up to something big!!

Shannon

Two pounds for me too! In spite of the rotten cold I've got which has really cut into my rowing time, I managed to lose 2lbs. Probably because I've been too tired to even get up and raid the fridge.

I don't know if I'll make four, my goal for the challenge, but progress is progress, hey? And I wanted to get 200k in for the JVTC, but after today's row, I need 90k--but I have 9 days, so I have to average 10k per day, and I know I can potentially do that--done it before! So maybe I'll be able to pull it out after all.

Congrats to both of you guys, too, Shannon and Rubber Ducky!

And Rubber Ducky, maybe you ought to give that chiropractor a hug, just don't hurt his back! Naw, to lose those 2 pounds and have someone notice your pants are looser--you're losing some good inches there. Did you measure your hips before you started the Weight Loss Challenge? If you did, how many inches have you lost?

--Jen in WI

Good job, Rubber Ducky! And it's nice when the way your clothes fit proves that the little changes on the scale are adding up.

Here's an update on my no snack foods challenge: I did mostly OK - carrots, cherry tomatoes, and kiwis were my main snacks. BUT...I did eat one of those Almond Joy bars my husband brought home. And last night, after a 20K row, I ate a big handful (or 2) of honey whole wheat pretzel sticks. I'm not even sure how many I ate - I just ate them ALL, but the bag was nowhere near full , so probably it wasn't too terrible.

I didn't gain any weight this week .

Emilia

Well, I lost 3.4 pounds as of last Wednesday's weigh-in. woo. hoo.

If I seem less than excited about that, it's only because I had gained 4.4 in two weeks before that for a net gain of only 1 pound for the month so far!

So, I just have to lose 6 more pounds by the end of January to meet the 5-pound loss challenge for January. ACK!! I don't know... That's pretty ambitious for me.

... But I did say that I was taking the challenge, didn't I?

Fine. I won't give up.

Robin

Hi Robin.

I like your attitude. Don't give up. Even if the weight doesn't all disappear this month, every little bit helps. Imagine if you HADN'T lost 3.4 pounds this time . So, give yourself a pat on the back for your good work...and KEEP ROWING!

Emilia

OK, checking in with my moment of truth. I lost 1 pound, compared to gaining 2 pounds last week and losing 1 pound the week before, so I'm back where I started, but I didn't gain so that's good! It's lifetime habits we're after, right?

Rowing was pretty dismal. I rowed only 2 days of the week, though I did row 12k each of those. And I'm getting some good advice on improving my PBs, so I'm getting excited about that possibility. It seems I need to take every other day easy to give my muscles a rest but still keep them conditioned. And not expect to make huge improvements in speed all in a day.

Good news is, I drank LOTS of tea and coffee last week for snacks and most of the Christmas chocolate is gone from the cupboard (not just by my consumption). I won't go snackless next week but have some great ones in the frig--tzatziki (nonfat yogurt-herb-cucumber spread) with crackers & french bread, should go well with that tea and some fruit.

Other good news is despite losing no weight permanently over the last year, a few friends cannot be convinced otherwise, so I must be improving my muscle/fat ratio.

So here's to a new week and taking care of ourselves.

Margaret

I think tzatziki counts an an ALLOWABLE snack, as long as you don't have it with too much bread. Especially if you're using nonfat yoghurt.

I believe in HEALTHY snacking (veggies, fruit, definitely nonfat yoghurt). I was just having a hard time staying away from the stuff I knew was not so great - candy, cookies, bread and full fat cheese (YUM), chips). I'm going to continue trying to minimize the junk food snacks for another week, because when traveling next month I'll be eating out a lot.

Congratulations on losing 1 pound!

Emilia

Hi Ducks,

Just thought I would do my weekly check-in on my progress. I lost 2.5 pounds last week! So now I have 11 pounds to go until I make my goal of lightweight status. I have lost exactly thirty pounds so far (since January 2005). I don't think I would have been able to get this far without the Ducks and rowing, so thanks gals!

Shannon

ONE POUND IS GOOD!! Be happy that you lost it. I can sure see my pants getting looser this week, I think next weigh-in may show some gains in the losses... snacking is my hardest part.. but what the heck is this TZATZIKI? YOu just mix up yogert, herbs, and crush up some cucumbers??? UMMM sounds good.

Shannon...I am so proud of you! I now check the Ducks team page to see what new weight loss number you have in your profile...it's almost as much fun as seeing if I'm getting my meter output any closer to Ellen's!

What are we all doing in February to keep this momentum going??

Deb

The JVTC and the January Weight Loss Challenge have been instrumental in keeping me exercising!

C2 has the Valentine's Day Challenge, but that's only for that week. March Madness Challenge will possibly help to keep everyone going, methinks.

We could either do Round II of the Weight Loss Challenge, and maybe include some different twists of some kind to make it fun. Maybe we should all go "fishing" once a week to see how we can each do PBs with the Fishing Game that C2 posted? It could be just like the Bass Masters Fishing Tournaments. You can tell I live in fishing country with all of our lakes up here in Northern Wisconsin, hey? We could have teams, and each team would take the average of their highest scores for the team score. The prize could be a McDonald's Gift Card for a Filet-o-Fish sandwich. Can't have fries with that, though! Except that not everyone has a PM3, and I believe the game only works on that. Besides that, all the kids will beat everyone.

Any ideas, anyone?

--Jen

Now I want the fishing game, but I don't want to buy the new PM3 monitor....waaaaah....I hate intervals, too. Oh well.

I may not row today - I'm GOING OUT!!!! BY MYSELF!!!! For dinner and a concert with a friend and NO KIDS!!!!

In case all the capitals didn't give it away, this is an unusual event for me .

Maybe when I get home...a quick midnight row .

Emilia

Posting our best fishing scores weekly sounds like fun. Do enough folks have PM3s? Now I have to get DH to move it from his laptop to the erg.

Emila - HAVE FUN! Everyone deserves time out w/out kids or even hubby.

Schenley
