Hi all,

I decided to do a 10,000 metre ranking instead of 30:00 on Challenge Thursday this week.

I managed a PB by 2:43.9! That puts me 24th out of 34 in my age and weight category. Plus I earned 810 points for that on the nonathlon.

By the way Krysta, take some advice from your big sister and get yourself a rower for at home! You'll never regret the decision.

Shannon

Phew, I finally got the rest of my 30 minutes in at 10pm. No speed record here, but a sense of accomplishment, anyway.

Congrats on the huge leap up on your 10k PB, Shannon!

QUOTE(Canada Goose @ Jul 21 2005, 04:52 PM)

By the way Krysta, take some advice from your big sister and get yourself a rower for at home! You'll never regret the decision.

I know! <wishfull, hopefull> It is getting soo hard to pack Kasey up and take her to the gym. I have to row before 9am or after 9pm, because kids aren't supposed to be in the cardio section during business hours. And she is getting increasingly less content to just sit in a car seat or lay on a blanket and watch me row, as she gets older. I'm either going to have to start taking her to the gym at 2am, when she is sound asleep, or just buckle down and buy a shiny new Model D rower!

- Swamp Hen

Hey Swamp Hen - go ahead a do what your big sister said! You won't regret it!!!!

Congrats to all of you faithful rowers! I haven't been so good as of late. Can't quite put my finger on it. I've got to get back into the groove soon or I'll wind up at the bottom of the list.

Keep up the good work everybody!

The Bad Old Buffle

I was thinking about doing 10,000 Meters, too. I think for burning calories, it's not so much how fast, but how far that makes the difference. Of course, the faster you can burn the calories, the more time you have left in your day! 10,000 meters takes longer than 30 minutes!

Robin

QUOTE(Canada Goose @ Jul 21 2005, 03:52 PM)

Hi all,

I decided to do a 10,000 metre ranking instead of 30:00 on Challenge Thursday this week.

Shannon

10k Tuesday? Hmm, i like the idea, but am not sure yet if i'm ready to commit to it. Just a thought to throw out as this 30 minute thursday seems to inspire me. If we did do another challenge day of some sort (doesn't have to be 10k, but maybe another challenge of any sort) I do suggest we start a seperate topic for it.

Good job! I didn't know any boys were joining our 30-minute Thursdays! Cool.

Today was better than last week, but still not my personal best. But I have been trying to work on my form. I observed a coaching session where the coach was telling the team they should have what seemed to me to be a pretty slow SPM - 19 or 20! I'd been doing about 28 or 29. So I really looked at the form and tried it myself. When I get tired, I focus again and go slower, but somehow, my pace tends to pick up! Weird! So, last week my SPM was 28 and this week it was 27, but I still did a few more meters!

Interesting...

Robin

Congrats, Sirrobin and Citroen, on your new PB's!

I had a great row, too. I rowed 6833, beating my old PB by 103 meters, got an extra 13 Nonathalon points, and moved up 2 spots in my age/weight category (7 out of 25). I thought I was going to die, but am floating on air now. Lately, I haven't been doing many ranked races so it feels great. I have been walking to the gym too, and I think maybe that tires me out for rowing fast. So now I am going to drive to the gym on ranking row days and walk the rest of the time.

- Swamp Hen
I got a new log card and didn't put the old data on it so I didn't get to row against the pace boat from last week, but that's okay. I beat my meters by 30 meters anyway so I'm happy. I'm ranked 48 out of 72 in my category this week. Last week I was 50 of 70. I'm not a math wiz, but it looks pretty static to me by conparison. Nevertheless, I'm still improving every week. Yeah for me!

Robin
Way to go, Robin!

The way I figure it, last week you were at 71.4% and this week you are at 66.6%, so you have improved your ranking as well as your metres rowed.

I did a 1,000 metre ranking today and got a PB by 4.4 seconds.

I'm planning on trying the 500 metres tomorrow. My 10 year old daughter (Princess Daisy Duckling) wants to give it a try too! Then my sister (Swamp Hen) says she's doing it, so we'll be a giving it a real family effort!

Shannon

Well, I did the 30 minutes, but I finished 100 meters behind last week. I usually do better after taking a day off like I did yesterday, but perhaps I was tired. The reason I took yesterday off was because I didn't get much sleep due to a slammin' tension headache for which I ended up in the emergency room for some miracle drug through an IV. I thought that all this rowing was supposed to help relieve tension! Oh, well. I'm back to normal today.

Normal is good.

Robin
A robin who aspires to be a duck.

I joined you guys today, for 30-minute Thursdays, and managed a PB in the process...7105m. I spent the next 30 minutes cleaning lung tissue off the rail.
