Hello, I've just joined Ducks in a Row. I've decided to call myself Jemima after Beatrix Potter's Jemima Puddleduck. I'm living in California, but am originally from Cambridge, England. I started rowing in June of this year at my gym and by October I'd bought my own machine. I've just clocked 300,000 and am hoping for my 1st 1,000,000 eventually!

Welcome Jemima,

I'm new too. I just started back on the C2 after about a year of not doing any exercise. I never knew this forum existed until I got back online for the Holiday Challenge. It's been very motivating, and I think it's helped me stay on track with re-establishing an exercise routine. Sounds like you are off to a great start. It took me about 3 years to reach 1 million meters.

Emilia

I just joined the Ducks myself a few weeks ago and find it motivating. We've got lots of competition from the other teams so it's great to see some more members. I think you're both ahead of me on the quest for 1,000,000 but that's ok. It will take a while but I'm sure we'll all make it.

Carol

Hello, Ducks! I have been rowing for a long time on my concept but just got smart enough to find out there was a virtual team to join. Good thing I read the newsletter! I'm working on the Holiday Challange right now and about half way to thru. It's nice to have the goal. It looks like a lot of you have gotten special team names and I would like one too. When I paddle on the bay here in San Diego in the summer I carry a little yellow tub ducky along for luck and company. His name is {strangely enough!!} yellow tub ducky. So in his honor may I have my team as yellow tub ducky??? I know he would be thrilled.... Ok, back to the holiday row so I can have the holiday glow!!!

Yellow Tub Ducky

Hey there, Yellow Tub Ducky!

I think that sounds like a fine name! I don't have a ducky name, but I always kinda wanted one. I use "woolsmith" which is my e-name on some other forums--I got that from the fact that I do a lot of handspinning of wool and other natural fibers. And Buffle has a pet name of "Woolsy" for me, so I'll probably stick with what I started with.

In any case, welcome to the Duck Pond! Glad to have ya, and anyone else I've missed who has landed in the Pond. :-)

--Jen in WI

This is the same post I made on another thread. We might be able to get into 6th place given all the Ducks who are doing the HC and with some of the new members we've acquired in the Pond recently. This topic seemed like a better place to plant it:

And OBTW to any new Ducks out there--don't forget to log any meters you've done since the 2005 rowing season started, May 1st, 2005. Might as well get credit for the work you've done!

--Jen, feelin' a tad ornery again.

I just joined the Ducks, but I have been rowing for about 2 yrs now. I have a rower at home, but I still go to the gym to use the bikes and elliptical crosstrainer. I always get excited for the challenges and this year is no exception. I really want that t-shirt! I love snowflakes and I love the way they worked a rower into the design. Very, very cool. I see we just moved into 6th place...Way to go Ducks!

Mary Teresa MacDougall aka TMacDuck

And we each benefit from our individual efforts, and that just pulls us more towards our health and fitness goals. I think lots of Ducks are getting into the HC, and because of our sheer numbers, we're pulling ahead at a good clip. Plus it's giving us a chance to do a good-natured ribbing at Dougie (citroen) and Carla (seat5). We owe 'em Hee!hee! Of course, they might be getting us back from another time....

Naw, Taff Attack has some mighty good rowers on their team...but so do the Ducks, in my own, unbiased opinion.

I'm doing the 200k for the hoodie sweatshirt, and after tonight I have about 48k left to go. I like that snowflake design C2 came up with, too! It'll fit right in up here in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

I did a rowing blitz to get my million meters, and I finished that on the Wednesday before the HC started. Once I get the HC done, I'll probably back off my rowing and do more cross-training with our Airdyne and NordicTrack x-c skier. A little variety is good in exercise, hey? I think there's something to the theory that muscles get very efficient where a repetitive motion is involved, and then it takes more effort to get past that fitness plateau. A different kind of muscle action would be the answer, so we'll give variety a whirl.

Good luck with your HC!

--Jen
