I wish I had such an imagination. I see that I need to spice things up a bit for a signature - but that will take a little time while I come up with something original!

Now - as to the question about rest meters. I remember reading a discussion about that on this forum a while back. As with everything, there are differing opinions. I will have to hunt for that topic to get the general concensus again, but in the meantime, I'll say this much. I count the entire total. For instance, one of my last interval pieces was programed for 7000 total meters, but the final total of 7091 is what I used to put in my logbook. There - that ought to spark some discussion!

Okay - now for last night's 27K. It was a killer. It didn't seem to go nearly as well as last week's 25. I'm not sure what the problem was. I took breaks every half hour, and I know they were longer than they should have been. I also used some Gu at the hour and a half mark. I was running out of steam. A simple math equation shows that if I maintain that turtle pace, it will take over 4 hours to do the marathon. Aaarrrgh! I would like to do it under 4.
Oh well, at least the turtle finished his race!

Carla - I was really trying to do that 10 m stroke thing. I didn't have much luck. Could the fact that I am only 5 feet tall have something to do with it? I'm going to give it another try during my next 10K piece.
Enough from the Buffle!

Hi Bufflehead,

I don't think it is possible to get enough from the Buffle!

Thank you for your compliments on my name and signature. I had been trying to come up with something "different" for a while, which is why it took so long. I have to give my hubby credit for the name though. It was a lot of fun making the signature.

I am also having a lot of trouble with the 10 m stroke thing, but I am still working on it. I am only 5'4" and have wondered too if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks for your input on the resting interval meters. I have about 5000 resting meters total that have not been logged and was not sure what to do with them.

Thanks again!
So I've gotten a bit off track. Went out of town for the weekend, and then came back pretty sick. The worst of the trio of things i'm dealing with is the sinus infection. Sat down to do a slow and easy row last night, and got dizzy after 500, so I got off. I think its my inner ear/ sinus problems. Will just have to wait it out. I'll try again tonight.

Also, I know we had a discussion going on about rest days last week (too tired to look for it), and just wanted to see if anyone else who's trying to lose weight finds that they get the sudden drop in weight on rest days? I find that I hold steady during the week while working out, and then on whatever day i choose as a rest day I drop a bit of weight. Maybe from my body recovering?

Feeling for you Snappy. Speedy recovery to you.
I had no such excuse for getting off track. Last bit of February saw fewer workouts, though still good progress in stamina & in bettering my times. But I needed more resolve.
So my March goal is to re-row February, day-by-day, same or better in time or distance. Helps that the calendar days & weekdays coincide on account of February having 28 days. I do rest rows on my predictable "long" workdays, or give it a miss if dinner is too late. I *hate* early morning rows - too stiff, too tired - except that they make me cheerful through the day.
Now it feels like a significant injury to the R deltoid after this morning's "easy". Maybe a small tear - worse as the day progressed, could hardly shift the gears in the car en-route home, and some bruising now appearing. Probably not enough warm-up stretching, but in the morning I cannot get enough stretch! Arghhhhhhh
Hope I'm wrong, and that I wake up just fine!!!
You too Snappy. Wake up just fine.

Hi all: I am trying to get back in the saddle after a busy Jan and Feb. Where did that time go?

I missed the info on warming down unstrapped. Why does that matter?

Also, I really like intervals -- just can't do straight 5K, too boring. I always do the 2-2-1 repetitively, 2 slow (22-23), 2 med (24-25) and 1 at 27-28. If I am short on time, I'll do the cycle only 3 times (15 mins.), etc. It's just confusing enough that if I listen to music or talk radio at the same time, I can be focused "hmm.. okay, 10-2=8, then I must be on a 2 min. med. spurt, then on to the 1 minute 28, etc."

Anyway, keeps me going.

Great to hear DIAR is cranking along.

Pintail

I want to row at least 10k a day, pushing now towards 18k and hoping to try a half marathon soon. I try to alternate interval workout days with long row workouts, but mostly I just do whatever I think I am up to doing and have time for.

My ultimate goal at this time is to hit the million meter mark before our first wedding anniversary on June 5th. My total meters right now are 207,826 and I started on February 4th. It will be a challenge, but I am pretty sure that I can do it.

Arowma, I hope you are feeling better soon!

Glad to see you are back in the saddle Pintail!

Took a day off yesterday, and modified my technique a bit to bother my arm less, and I don't *think* I made it any worse. Still able to better my 5000m time by almost 1/2 a minute, and that was strapless too. (When I say strapless it always conjures up an image of rowing in a strapless gown or some such ridiculous thing )
Marisa
Snappyrower - I weighed myself this morning after my rest day yesterday and I had dropped one pound, and was pretty much stable all week. I will start paying closer attention to my weight the day after rest days to see if there is a consistent weight loss. (I actually didn't expect to see a weight loss today as my husband and I went out for dinner last night and I had a HUGE meal of Chinese food.)

Arowma - Thanks! I have to say the people on this forum, being on DIAR and having the online log book keep me inspired. I can see my progress everyday and I just keep setting the bar a little higher. The best part is that even though I may not be losing much in weight, my jeans are definitely getting loser!
Let me know what you figure out on the rest day/weight loss correlation Ritz! It seems to happen fairly consistently for me. And I do tend to eat more on rest days, but I thought if it happens for others it might be another argument in favor of periodic rest days.

Anyway, did a 5k tonight, first row of length in over a week, because of my sickness. Can definitely feel that I have been off for a week. Ouch. Oh well.

Also: WE'RE NUMBER 39!!!! GO DUCKS!!!! KEEP ON ROWING!

lets see if we can pull ahead some more, the team behind us is only off our stern by 6k right now. Also if we keep moving ahead it shouldn't be too llong before we pull ahead another spot ladies!

Well - work has been interfering with my posts! The nerve!
At least I can say that it hasn't interfered with my workouts.
So, this is what my week looks like:
Mon. Lifting at gym, row 10K
Tues. Row 10K
Wed. Interval speed work 500/1500 x 4/500
Thur. Lifting at gym, cross training x 45 min.
Fri. Rest day
Sat. Row 29K
Sun. Much needed rest day!

That ought to keep me out of trouble for a while. I see that some of you Ducks have really been piling up the meters. Great job!!

Let's hear from some of you quiet ducks!
The Buffle

Take it easy and get better slowly Susan! You certainly don't want to mess around with the flu! I got it a few years ago, and got all the complications to go along with it.....I can say that I pray that I never get it again! Be careful, rest up, and feel lots better girl!

Well, I've been keeping up with all of the happenings in the duck pond, and wish I was contributing too! Last week I was working out with a friend and keeping her motivated as she starts at a new gym. Then the Easter Bunny brought me some strange lung pain/infection, so I'm taking it easy until we figure out what that is....
am taking antibiotics and using an inhaler for a while. Will see how long it takes for the pain to calm down.

Anyway, "Go Ducks"! and welcome to all of our new ducks in the pond!
