Welcome back AndreasB!

There is a HM scheduled in two weeks where I hope to keep Sir Pirate under control . That should be a good warm up for you and should be at a reasonable pace for you. Your times were fantastic and if you are 90% of what you were two years ago, you should be right with us.

I might join you for the FM if it starts a little later. I have rowed marathons at 4 AM and had some problems getting the body moving at a decent pace. 8:00 GMT is 3 AM here and would result in a very poor row, but I might do it anyway just to give you some company. My time would probably be around 2:50 if I started that early.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Hi Paul,
Great to hear from you again. Looking forward to finally be rowing with you "face2face".
I'm sorry to say that I'm not even near 90% of past times. I don't know why because my runnning and mountainbiking is as good or maybe even better than it was two years ago. Maybe I just have to get into erging again before I can speed up. Turned 30 last summer so I might even have a chance of getting som metal in the nationals if I can get sub 6:15 again.

As far as I can see the Pirates HM (which I would love to join) is on the 17th as well - your not going to do both the HM and the FM??? I know your quite a FM-rower but both races???

Anyhow if you want to join us for sure, I'll be willing to go for another date as well as a later row.

AndreasB

It seems the 17th @ 7:00 GMT is the way to go.

Paul: I'm sorry if you wont be able to join us for the FM. Would love to have you pace me through one some other time though.

I'll set up the race - feel free to enter at any time - the more the merrier.

AndreasB

I think that a HM is enough for me right now. I can't give up a chance to thrash the Pirate at my favorite distance. :-)

My wife and I are starting a toy company and Christmas is the busiest time of year for the toy industry. Google "News" then type in "Bridge Street Toys" for some articles about our company that appeared in the newspaper.

I am sure that we will meet again on-line. Do you want to do a virtual row of the Boston Marathon in April? I am trying to set it up in my spare time.

Cheers,

Paul Flack
Boston Marathon on e-row? Sure sign me up.

I guess I wont be running any Bostons Qualifiers this year anyhow.

Maybe I will be able to go for a new PB, eventhough I guess I wont be showing on your blue screen for long even if I succeed.

Good luck with your new business.

Cheers
AndreasB

Maybe we can get a bunch of fast marathoners on-line to join? Andreas von Tonder in South Africa is usually up for a good on-line race. We might be able to interest Xeno in California to do it and that would add some celebrity status to our marathon. He would be trying to go under 2:30 and should be able to do it since this would be his second marathon.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Race report:

Todays FM went very well. RP worked without any problems, and there were no starting problems whatsoever.

There was three rowers rowing the FM this morning. Hennie who planned to set out in something like 1:56-1:57 in order to row a new PB, Greame who was going to row his first FM, and was planning to row around 2:05 and myself who was rowing my first marathon this year and therefore planned to set out in 2:00 - a pace pretty far from my PB-pace.

Hennie did an awesome row - pulling down to 1:50 more than once during the race. I saw a lot of low splits from Hennie (also during the last half) but it seemed as if he had some problems of some sort and had to get of the erg once in a while (what happend Hennie?). Dispite this he succeed in rowing yet another PB in 2:44:26,8. Great rowing!

As far as I could tell Greame was during a strait race with very steady pace around 2:05. Until the end, where I saw some 1:40-something splits on the screen. Did his first FM sub3-hour in 2:58:58,4. Very impressive!

I did a controlled and relatively easy (FM's are NEVER really easy in the end no matter how slow you go) race starting out in 1:59,5 and holding that the frist HM, and then pulling some negative splits on the last part (it's not often I'm able to do negative splits!) to end up with 2:47:17,7. Confident that I'll be able to PB later this season (perhaps at the Boston Marathon).

All in all a great row with pure sub3-hour rows and 2 PB - very nice.

Thanks to Greame and Hennie for a great workout and good company.

AndreasB

Great respect for everyone who finishes a full marathon. Once or twice a year I do a HM. Yesterday was this second attempt, and I was glad that Phil, Paul and Will kept me company. The first 5k of the race went very easy for me although I was pacing at 1:45 average. Just when I started calculating to which end time this would bring me, the guy with the hammer showed up again. He was gentle this time and warned me to slow down to 1:50 instead of using the hammer immediately. I kept this pace for the second 10k and finished in 1:15:39, 18 sec faster than the previous PR. Paul rowed an incredible steady race. After a few km he settled at 1:49.7 average and during the last few km he managed to increase the speed to finish in a new SB sub 1:17. The results were not saved at the DR server, so I don't know exactly the results. Will rowed also an SB. Phil had some problems in the second 10k, but I don't know if it was an SB or not. Congratulations to all for finishing and I hope you have less difficulties than me with just sitting in a chair the day after (I hope it's just a muscle pain). Unbelievable that you marathon rowers can do this twice as long.

Jaap

1:16:52 was my time. I saved my RowPro file in the rankings in case anybody wants it as a pace boat. I had to use my rankings code, so it must be one of the top times for my age group.

It was a tough row. I can't believe that Jaap took off at a 1:45 pace. That is asking for trouble. Next time, try a 1:47 and see if you can hold it to the end and go below 1:15.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

I am rowing with much more power now at every pace and this is a bad idea if you want to go the distance but it's not easy toi change the SPI on demand.
I have never struggled so much during a HM before. I normaly have a few bad K's but nothing like yesterdays 8000m.

I could not belive the rate that Jaap went of at, my wife said that "he would only last a few k at that pace" I told her this was Jaap and he would no doubt hold it till the end, (Jaap, you let me down fella )

I just saw Paul pull away from me, I did not care as I was hurting to much, my aim was just to finish the thing. I stopped about 5 times but would not give in.

Stroke graph below. Did not even get a SB for my effort. I will be doing another one in a few weeks if you guys are up for it.

It was fun, in a sick twisted way. Well done all on your times

Sir Pirate
