Did we decide to formally or informally separate the straight races into heats by relative speed? I see Bill has a race up for Sat morning already. I will be slower at 8am than later in the day. I thought part of the fun and the challenge of the straight races was going to be generally rowing with people roughly your speed. The fastest group may have already separated out itself and rowing in the morning GMT. By my count we have up to 27 people total racing, so that is at least 4 heats.

One of the real interesting aspects of a straight race, with everyone starting at once, is that you get sucked out 2-3 secs in pace too fast at the start, then after about 500m you start questioning if you can really hold that and begin to check out your oppostion. You wonder, can they really keep this up? Am I going to fly and die? Puts a little strategy and excitement into the race.

I have a hard karate workout on both Saturday and Sunday with a bunch of black belts. I really felt that in my race yesterday. However, I'm like you, not quite as fast early.

Jeff

I also suck in the morning, but with a good night's rest, I was planning on running a decent race at 8AM. (These times are all GMT-4).

I can only race on Sunday this coming weekend. I am away down to Portsmouth on Saturday for a Erg training day, so will be doing some tough sessions.

I will pulling a lot slower time on Sunday, and like michael, will be even slower early in the morning.

I will try and fit in with the majority though.

Sir Pirate

I think the way this thread is going in indicative of the issues. It's really a matter of personal schedules and time zone differences that make seeding heats by time difficult. I put up a 5K next Sunday 13:00 GMT with my personal target of 18:00 if that helps.

Frank
