Just letting everyone know that the land "down under" is alive and well and.........RACING ON ROWPRO. Expect to see more of us in the future.

We are ready to take the Flack from rampaging Pirates, get arrested by Californian Patrolman Thomas and hear Andreas Vans Thunder. And since we fought the Jaaps in WW2 we'll take him on too.

Today the Southern Cross IRC did something very original and did a 10K paddle. Format was 8Ks at the slowest members pace and the last 2Ks at whatever pace you wish. Followed by a 2K cool-down with closest possible time to 9 minutes. Now where did that idea come from?

Doesn't matter because we tried and for those that made the start and could start (Mark West, Ramon Campbell and myself), we had a great time. One member didn't have his GMT figured out and missed the start while Californian Bill Palmer was ready to go, but his ready button wasn't, and couldn't click in to start. Other than that we started on time and had no problems.

Initial pace was slow at 1:58, but that suited me fine as it was my third workout for the day (3hrs of on water rowing and cycling). Westy at times sped up to 1:45 pace to relieve boredom while I chatted with my kids in the room. When it came down to the last 2Ks I wasn't sure what to expect so I sped up to 1:39 pace. Looked like Westy tried to follow so I put on some 1:36 spurts until the last 300m which I did at 1.31 pace. My last four 500m splits added up to 6:33.9 for 2Ks so considering I was stuffed before I started I'm not complaining.

We hope to muster up some more starters for the same repeat next week. Don't expext to see anyone from the USA because you'd all be in bed snoring away at that time. Today's race must of been the first one run during Aussie daylight hours which is nice for a change because I could enter it.

Shame you guys run your 6 and 5K challenges 3.30am Aussie east coast time.

Keep it smooth, keep it relaxed
Roland Baltutis
Hi Roland, sounds good what you guys are doing. Think I will have to do some late night or very early morning rows so we can have some battles going on

I shall keep an eye on the schedule and try to invade some of your sessions if that is ok I will see if I can bring some of the usual suspects with me (if Thomas can get out of bed)

Sir Pirate

I withdrew and tried entering again, and this time got a set of ready lights indicating only that Westy was ready, but that was clearly wrong as the position indicators showed 3 of you rowing away. After a minute or so the race disappeared from the available races list. Probably it ought to do so immediately upon the racemaster clicking the start race button to avoid confusing anyone who gets to the start line a little late and doesn't realize the race has gone off without him/her (I think you guys started a minute or two before the appointed time, maybe it isn't a problem if you don't start early).

QUOTE

Initial pace was slow at 1:58, but that suited me fine as it was my third workout for the day (3hrs of on water rowing and cycling). I'll certainly be joining you guys in the future. I'd rather row at 10 or 11pm than try to row a piece set up as a "first thing in the morning" event for people 3 time zones to the east!

Bill

The race was at 3 pm Aussie east coast time, which would only just make it feasible for Californians but probably too early in the morning for the Europeans. It was set up at that time so that members from Western Australia could join in (a few hours behind our east coast time). I suppose we could shift the time one or two hours depending on what interest we get from others wanting to join in.

We plan to set up the same race again next weekend at GMT 5. It will be the same format next week. 8K at slowest members pace then all out war in the last 2Ks. Let us know if slight adjustment to the time helps. Since Thomas is a Californian it would also be nice to see him there.

Keep it smooth, keep it relaxed
Roland Baltutis

It'll make for a short night's sleep if I row with the SCIRC guys the night before

At least in the last week or two, there's been enough going on at reasonable hours that I haven't felt any need to ask others to accomodate my schedule. I find that if I don't get in at least some rowing in the morning, the chances are good that events will conspire to prevent it from happening that day. I'm never going to sign up for something before 8am except just before the start (in case I decide to sleep instead), so asking you guys to move your start time back just means possibly breaking up your day, and for what? There are undoubtedly a few equally slow Europeans you could beat But I'll take this as an invitation that should you guys propose something I really want to do, I'll feel welcome to at least ask if it might be moved back an hour or two. I do hope the race series being proposed over on the Rowpro forum ends up being at a workable time.

Bill

Hi all:

I've seen that next one is going to happen on Saturday at 05:00 GMT, this is 7:00 in the morning here in Spain so if you don't have problem to accept someone from the opposite side of the globe (we call this 'antipodas' in Spanish but I have no idea of how you call it in English) I will be there.

See ya

So if you're 5K SB is 1:00m faster than the slowest persons SB, then you have to wait 1:00m before you get to start rowing after the start.

Then whoever wins gets some extra points.

The whole thing is at Summer Series

We'd like to get the teams situated and online before the first race if possible.

Jeff

It might be pre-mature for us to have a team by the first race 18th & 19th June.
