i don't believe that they are bankrupt - i just spoke with peter loeffen - president of row pro about the future of this product - as far as i know they are alive and well.

bill

QUOTE(Laupi @ Feb 16 2005, 03:58 PM)

I really wonder....... just bought an activation key - today already no more website available....... And I'm sure that once you are into the 'game' you will find it a big motivator.
Hope to race with you soon.

Cheers,

Pieter

Laupi:
Digital Rowing is working fine for me. Occasionally their website is down... but that is a server issue, nothing to do with Digital Rowing (DR) or RowPro directly. I bought the DR licence in December 04 and had a little trouble getting set up, but that was really my problem... I suspect that you just need to tweak a few things and you'll be fine.
I also met and talked with Peter Loeffen at the CRASH-Bs in Boston last Sunday. He's good guy, working hard, etc.
Here's a general overview of Erow and DR/RowPro (in my experience) for anyone who cares:
1. C2 created set up the PM2 monitors (including PM2+) to support (a) programmed local workouts; ( venue racing (i.e., two or more machines connected locallyP and © internet racing (which included venue racing ... I once set up a race with four local Model C's with PM2+ monitors and four internet racers). Erow is the C2 software that supported venue racing and internet racing.
2. When the Model D and the PM3 were being introduced (Nov 2003), C2 apparently decided NOT to adapt Erow to the PM3. Instead they apparently developed (or deepened) a relationship with Pete Loeffen (aka Digital Rowing, a New Zealand resident who seems to come to Boston Mass., USA occasionally); Pete built up DR and RowPro, etc.
3. My impression is that DR started two or three years ago with software to connect to the PM2/PM2+ and provide GRAPHICS, and ANALYSIS for one local ergometer only. I saw/met Pete for the first time in Feb 2004 at CRASH-B. DR had no internet capability and no venue racing capability AT THAT TIME.
4. In about March 2004, I bought the Model D with PM3 and was encouraged by C2 to talk to DR (i.e., Pete) about venue and internet racing via RowPro, because Erow was not compatible with the PM3 (i.e., you could not and CANNOT row online with the Model D with Erow). Until December 2004, I was not too interested in DR, because what I really wanted was online and venue racing more than graphics and local analysis.
5. I became aware in December 2004 that DR was supporting online racing; it seemed to me that more people were switching to RowPro from Erow; I have now dropped Erow entirely and just do RowPro online. The C2 message boards are dramatically more active than DR; however, it does seem that the DR/RowPro online races MUST grow, while the Erow races MUST decline as all new C2 ergs have PM3s (and consequently support ONLY ProPro, not Erow). So I expect that during 2005 we will continue to see a growth of DR/RowPro use and races, and a corresponding decline in Erow races.
6. I have a distinct impression that C2 is perfectly happy to see DR/RowPro grow and Erow decline. After all, they are a hardware company, and seem to be doing great with that (I've been up to their factory). Without any formal announcement, they seem to have turned the graphics, computer analysis, internet racing, etc., side of things over to Pete at DR as a sort of partner.
7. DR/RowPro on the other hand, according to Pete a week ago at CRASH B, is ironing out the last bugs in beta 5 for RowPro 1.7. Pete told me he does plan to develop a venue racing (i.e., two or more ergs hooked together locally) module for RowPro, but "not within 2005). Pete seems to be a quiet, unassuming guy, so I feel confident that he'll work at a reasonable pace and improve RowPro steadily.
8. SPECTULATION: It seems clear that only a small fraction of C2 buyers row online -- I would guess no more than a few hundred worldwide, ever, which would explain why C2 doesn't have much interest. Probably a larger fraction, but how many???, need full computer graphics and analysis (as opposed to just PM3 stats). Therefor, it seems that Pete's market is quite small, and limited by (a) C2 Model C and D's in existence; and ( computer saavy owners (i.e., leave out most of the college boathouses, because the coaches could care less....). The venue and internet racing markets are a smaller subset of these, incluidng only © people with high-speed internet who have overcome the technical difficulties of setting up a special purpose computer hookup; and (d) the desire to row online. My guess would be that Pete/DR/ Row Pro is done as a "second job/ hobby", which would explain the occasional lags in response time from Pete/Brian at DR.
9. CONCLUSION: Those of us who DO row online should do as much as possible to encourage others to join and to buy into RowPro, so that DR will grow and prosper. (Clearly C2 did not no see enough value in the market to continue their Erow development.) Pete seems very committed, financially sound, etc., let's do all we can to help him make sales, welcome new online rowers, etc., etc. We need to do this to ensure that WE have the benefits of online rowing in the future.
Check the RowPro races as well as the Erow races. This can be done in one stop at Cees van Dok's www.rerow.com (note: use his "switch servers" link to go from Erow to RowPro).
Good luck to everyone in your next online race! Regards, Bert (runningun on DR and formerly on Erow).

The potential RowPro (along with ConceptII) has for motivational purposes as well as for competition and entertainment, etc. is enormous. I am so glad I have RowPro (and the ConceptII Web sites). Also, I actually feel like I have had the opportunity to meet (via chat) new friends from all over the world with some similar interests. Recently I am training each Sunday with my new friend from Holland. I find it unbelievable technology. How could anyone ("old folks" or young) not be extremely impressed? If you do not have RowPro at least take a look at the free evaluation version. I am sure you will be totally impressed with it's ability to motivate and make rowing very exciting and fun. RowPro and ConceptiII complement each other. And there is absolutely no truth to the actual subject of this thread I am certain...in fact the potential for the RowPro software is in it's infant stage.

Well I just ordered my C2 Weds and it gets here Mon. I cant wait to try it out and hook to the internet. The reason I went with C2 over WaterRower was the fact you can track so much. Im a videogame fanatic and this is what I need. I will play b-ball or v-ball all day because I can compete same with vids, so this fits in naturally. I will be using whatever I can to go online with this. I live in VA next to AOL and we have high speed all over. More and more places have highspeed now so there is no excuse.

Oh yeah, my video game charges $14 a month to add content and keep servers running, so if a software wanted to charge monthly fees that would be fine with me.

Carbok, Are you going to try RowPro? If you try it I know you will get it. Smooth sailing with your new ConceptII And, one thing don't give them any ideas about a monthly fee...I'll drop out VERY fast. Thanks.

Good things about monthyl fees though are new things. So they could update graphics or the software works and push down to you instead of buying next years version.
