Since RowPro is the designated heir to e-row, I thought it would be appropriate to give it a topic heading under e-row. I have been an e-row enthusiast for the last two years and now have a copy of RowPro 1.6 to play with. RowPro 1.7 should be in alpha test soon. I will be one of the testers. I have been sworn to secrecy about the details of the test, but I might pass on some general impressions.

Since I am now rowing with RowPro, I switched my university affiliation to RowPro Rowers. That deed probably brings me a permanent bad listing in Marilyn's black book, but it had to be done. Someday, I hope that Supercanoa and the RowPro Rowers will combine. Maybe combining forces will allow them to pass the Ancient Mariners?

Please post any thoughts about RowPro on this thread.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

Oh what fun it was to tryout rowpro. I was sitting at the start line next to a pace boat and none other than the great Xeno Mueller and Rob Waddell. Xeno and Rob took off like they had zero mass to accellerate, but after a half dozen strokes, I was able to stay steady with them. Then to my surprise, I was able to stay with these guys. I managed to get a quarter boat ahead by the halfway point and kept the lead going into the last quarter. I expected these rowing gods to really pour it on at the end, so I picked up the pace. I was thrilled to beat the gods by open water!

At the end, my time was only 6:31.8 so I know that the gods were only out for a leisurely paddle. But it was fun to row with the best!

(Most likely, Xeno and Rob were rowing their 1x Olympic times and paces and I was using an erg which simulates one person's effort in a 4x)

Cheers,

Paul Flack

I also switchd allegiance to RowPro, only seemed fair. Olny a measly 230km this season for me so far, hope to up the training now I have RowPro to raise the interest levels

Paul, have you tried rowing with one of your previous rows as a pace boat, I liked that option.

Looking forward to getting 1.7
Paul,
I'm glad to see that you've finally seen the light and have switched to Rowpro. Judging by your posts, all over the place( Rowpro Forum), looks like you've taken it on in a big way.

All my erging this season has only been on Rowpro, hence my C2 meters logbook matches my Rowpro logbook (I still don't record on water rowing in my logbooks).

How about getting busy and setting up some various distances in the rankings in readiness for version 1.7, so that people like myself can download from the rankings and race you in my own time. There are very few Rowpro results in the rankings at the moment.

Are you using a PM2+ or PM3 with Rowpro and do you get all of your 30 X 2min splits for a one hour row in your Rowpro Session Report. I can only get 20 splits in my report (using PM2+ with Rowpro but 30 in e-row report) ?

What are all the other Supercanoa folk doing? Are they also going to join the fold? If they all came across to form the one online club it would still be a waste of time comparing to the Ancient Mariners for most meters logged. The Ancient Mariners are mostly "plodders" and don't do much hard erging. If it was based on the most lowest splits- meters average then they wouldn't be anywhere near the top in the University/club rankings.

I love Rowpro and racing my previous rows. You don't realise how much your form can vary from day to day until you've used Rowpro. Some days I struggle to beat my past rows. Another interesting comparison racing past rows is the various different stages within a session where pace and effort increase. Some sessions I jump out of the blocks fast and lead the way only to be caught mid-distance by my other boats and have a real battle to the end, with the lead constantly changing amoungst the four boats on the screen.

It's all good training fun with more on the way with 1.7.

Keep it smooth, keep it relaxed
Roland Baltutis

The one problem i had with racing my previous sessions was that if you got more than a few seconds ahead you can't see where the other boat is.

In 1.7 this won't be too good unless there is a zoom out facility as most e-row races have people hundreds of metres apart

Likewise, with Rowpro I have found that you have to be carefull in selecting pace boats that will finish close to your estimated time. Anything more than approx 20 meters apart will drop the other boats off the screen. There is certainly a need for a smaller scale otherwise you could be left with all this wonderful ergo software and still have a lonely row.

Keep it smooth, keep it relaxed
Roland Baltutis
I haven't had time to do too many rows using RowPro. It will take some time to produce a complete library for you to race against.

I rowed a 5K on e-row two days ago with Thomas and a few others. I still don't have 1.7 to try out. But will use it as soon as it is ready.

I don't like the lack of scaling in the races either. It is very hard to determine how far behind or ahead you are. There is a small marking where the boat went off the screen. And it changes depending how many boat lengths ahead/behind it is. But it is hard to see when you are moving up and down the slide a few feet away.

I haven't rowed any 1 hour pieces yet with RowPro. I am only up to 5K. I was hoping to put a decent 5K up on the boards for you, but failed miserably. I couldn't even break 17 min. It would be nice to be able to put times other than our top ranked times, which aren't always rowed on RowPro, up on the board.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

A selction of 5km times wolud be good, after all a 17min 5km isn't much use to most people.

At the moment an 18min one is about as fast as I am managing.

Must get back into serious training, BIRC and GP series are getting very close

Roland, I am using my PM2+ with RowPro at the moment. I have a PM3 from Concept, but haven't taken it out of the box yet. I don't think that I will use it until I am comfortable with the PM2+ performance and RowPro.

Also, you shouldn't be so condencending about the meters put in by the "plodders" in the Ancient Mariners on-line rowing club. At least, not until you are 60+ years old. The aging process takes a lot of spunk out of a person. I think it is great that they are putting in so many meters, slow or fast, and enjoying staying away from heart disease, strokes, etc.

Cheers,

Paul Flack

[FONT=Arial]I'm with Marilyn, this is going to take some getting used to. I think I'm replying to the notes on the Ancient Mariners and their plodding about. Are you referring to the Ancient Mariners in Seattle? I've actually had the pleasure of rowing with them in practice and in a race. Their distance pays off because they can row fast! It's a great group! I also know a great guy named Stuyve Pell, he's 72, a great sculler, and just rode his bike across the United States! Cheers, Jane (Everett, WA) P.S. I'm up for using row pro. I just want to row with others when it's too dark and cold to row outside.

I have been using RowPro for about six months now, and absolutely love it, once I get it set up and running.
At least once a week my PC will not recognize the PM3 connection, and I actually have to take the back off my PM3 monitor, remove the batteries and reboot the system to get it to work.
Kind of a pain, and it definitely take time away from what I have allocated to train.
Couple days ago I went on the CII website and saw a firmware update for the PM3, installed it and then found out that I can't use the RowPro at all until V 1.7 arrives. DRATS!
Has anyone else experienced these same frustrations, and if so, any new ideas on how to address them?
Thanks from a message board newbie.
Mike

I had the same problems when I first tried connecting the PM3 to my laptop last week. I also had to remove the batteries and reset the PM3. Next time round I disconnected every USB peripheral from my laptop (having read of similar problems on the UK site) and plugged in the connection cable to the PM3 before turning on my laptop. It worked fine and that's what I do every time now.

Your other problem is that you've installed the latest firmware update which C2 said wouldn't work with RowPro - if you can uninstall it and re-install the previous version you may have some luck. Hope you do - or maybe V1.7 will be released imminently to save you the trouble.
