Weight Loss/ Weight Control
Back again after a Thanksgiving break - and back to 5K on the erg most mornings before breakfast (which has lately included lots more fruit & the occasional egg & an ostrich pattie, a good low fat source of protein or so I am told...) No more oats & cereal, toast, bagels or anything sugary. Donuts? Forget about it. It (avoiding low nutrient value carbs) has done wonders for my energy level which is much more constant throughout the day.

Have lost a total of 6 lbs between Oct 31 and Nov 30. Started at 173, now 167. If I can maintain this trend, should get close to goal of 160 by mid Jan 2006.

The rowing definitely helps and it is a pleasant change from the relentless running - still doing about 60 miles total every 10 days. I watch MTV and VH1 while rowing, so it helps to keep me current on pop culture as well... They tend to play the same videos over and over though. Enough already of the Blackeyed Peas, Madonna and Gwen Stefani!

Being part of a group - albeit virtual - is fun and motivating and I am almost starting to take it personally when RPRG is overtaken by another team in the total mileage stakes...

So let's get out there and do some serious rowing, folks!

Bert, Houston

I'm trying to get into an every other day rowing schedule and then back to where I was pre-accident.

-deppe

Hello all,
I've taken the opportunity to join and have added 18,932 m in the last two days. Does anyone know whether or not previous postings are added for the current year or only those posted after joining?

I'm shooting to make the 200K during the Holiday challange and hope to post 1,500,000m for the row year.

Hopefully along the way I'll lose some of my spare tire.

Ray Murphy
Bandon, OR

I rowed for 10 minutes, which is far less than I'm used to rowing, but it's a bit clunkier than my model d.
I don't think I'll be able to make the holiday challenge but I will add meters as I can.

-jason

Welcome new members and good luck with the Holiday Challenge! I have a question for those of you who have been rowing longer. I tried the 'strapless' rowing for the first time and did 10000 at a damper of 5 (model D) and was so pleased my hip flexors did not hurt! So, when I am strapped in, am I leaning back to quickly with the drive? Or, am I leaning back too far? Or both? Any suggestions? Perhaps I should be asking another forum?
Meri

Hi All,
Meri, it would be difficult to answer your question without actually seeing you row. Perhaps by being strapless, you paid more attention to your body position which may have helped you. Do you normally set the damper at 5? Do you check your actual drag? Do you erg using the same drag factor each time?
Inquiring minds....
~Grace

Evening all, or day depending on where ya are. Just started today with my gym membership through work. I'm from charlottesville, virginia and tend to excerise somewhat regularly. Always loved rowing and did scull when I was in High School during my senior year when we started a club. Felt the need to join you all because you all seem to be a great group and my life went pretty much downhill the past year and i'm working back up from my pit. Date a gal for a year, who wasn't what she was when we 1st started dating, gained 30 lbs when I was dating, didn't excerise at all, ate junk, got depressed, stressed (which never happens), 2 kidney stones, and a butt load of other stuff.

I weighed in at 191 and 5'11 when I had the stone a month ago, now i'm down to 185 and my normal self and am stiving to reach my weight goal of 170ish and to lower my BMI.

Sorry this post is long, best of luck to you all and hope you all have a great holliday season!

Winz Factor.
I've not yet met my goal, but my 18 year old son told me yesterday I was "looking fit"; that made my day! It's amazing how a few words of encouragement can help. So, thanks to all who contribute. Happy rowing through the holidays.
Meri

Hello everyone. I'm Melanie and I'm from MD. I just started rowing about 2 months ago, but have been logging 1-2 hours per day at the gym for years now, so I'm pretty fit. I tore the ACL, MCL and medial meniscus in my left knee about a year ago and was getting bored with swimming and cycling, so I decided to give rowing a try. I'm glad I did! I've lost 2 pounds in the past week and my back problems have almost disappeared.

Take care everyone, and good luck with the challenge.
