Weight Loss/ Weight Control

Post by [old] tahoeguy29 » October 26th, 2005, 11:39 pm

Thanks Jason and Lowwal for the encouraging words, but 2.5 million meters, wow kind of made me smile!

Actually rowed this morning and knocked 40 seconds off while trying to keep my SPM lower and just straighter arms, more legs and longer pull.

I've had the C2 for a few years, but this really is the first time I'm making it my core workout. I'm finding this site a great help to keep motivated and read about peoples successes.
I'm sort of on the same page as you Meri regarding trying to focus on weight loss/control and increase my distance, but.... I just can't help myself trying to compete

Cheers

I developed some right groin pain 2 months ago, but figured I'd have some pain with new exercise, so ignored it. Then 2 days ago, the pain kept me awake at night. Saw a physical therapist who says I have very tight hamstrings and hip adductors with weak hip abductors on the right. So, no rowing for awhile, lots of stretching and augment with weight lifting. I know my iron maiden misses me, as I do her. I hope to resume rowing soon. More importantly, I hope everyone is doing their stretches!

Meri

Just wanted to join in on the fun. I bought my C2 yesterday (not sure of the exact model), but need to keep excited about rowing/exercising. This group sounds like a blast. I hope nobody minds a brand new rower joining the ranks...!!! Please let me know if I make any mistakes with posting or log entry. I look forward to getting to know as many of you as possible.

New rower here too. Got mine on Friday and spent the last two days practicing good form and reading the documents.

Looking to lose 110 lbs and have liked the small bits of rowing in the gym. Thogh I would join up too. Very new to the website and rowing team concept but it looks like a great way to stick together.

Thanks.

-Jill
Madison, WI

Weight Loss/ Weight Control

Post by [old] bdvorak » October 30th, 2005, 2:29 pm

After 7 weeks of rest following my surgery, I am back logging for RPRG. I am doing 5K's each day and will work my way back to 40 minutes and 9K's a day probably by the end of November. I had emergency surgery on 9/6 to remove a section of small intestine. This was because of internal bleeding caused by a Meckel's Diverticulum (the things you learn when you are in the hospital). My weight has been all over the board, first gained 20 lbs. in the hospital due to the amount of fluids they were giving me then lost the 20 by the time I was released. I then lost 25 lbs in three weeks when I got home, and then last week started to gain almost a pound a day. I'm hoping my body will figure out what it wants to do. I was losing a pound a week before the surgery and want to get back to that level.

I started rowing seriously again in June and have never been a fan of exercise, but I did miss the rowing over the last two months.

Bill

Howdy Folks,

First time posting. Started rowing about a week ago and am hooked. Started at 275lbs, now at about 268lbs. Finally starting to push away from the table too. I am presently trying to reduce my times and killing myself so trying to remind myself to row long and slow. Getting in about 5K a day. This forum is great and talking to people around the world about losing weight and rowing is motivating. Look forward to hearing from y'all more; soon!

Weight Loss/ Weight Control

Hello everyone,

I bought my Model C used. Although, I'm not sure how "used" it was if you know what I mean. Let's just say I don't think the previous owner was an active member of these forums. I have logged over 10k in 3 days, but I find myself looking forward to my next row which has not happened for any type of exercise in a very long time.

I have a question. I'm concerned about my form because towards the end of a row (2/3 through) I start to experience some lower back pain. Bad enough, in fact, that I'm worried that either I'm pushing myself too hard or I'm going to injure myself to a point where I won't be able to continue rowing. I'm following the example set forth on the concept2 website, but still get the pain. I think I might be trying to keep my back too straight if that's possible, but who knows. I'm also just hoping that it will pass as I shed the pounds and build the rowing muscle group.

Any insight?

Thanks in advance everyone!

Also, I found out I was not doing enough stretching. Tight hamstrings can be a big problem. My advise to all rowers would be to be sure to include stretching as an integral part of the total workout. There is an excellent stretching program available with the training manual, which can be downloaded. Good luck.

Welcome to our newest members bigdrive, jill, and kenowen!

Couple of things that I am and have learned.

1. Really try to develop a routine and be diligent about sticking to it. Try to devote a certain time of the day to your rowing. Once you start to vary from your routine, you will find it too easy to stop rowing.

2. These Boards and the rankings and challenges are terrific motivators. Post your work-outs and watch yourself add the meters and climb in the standings.

3. Bigdrive ( Is that your golf shot ), watch the video on technique. It is so easy to use your back instead of your legs.

Words from a novice, so take them for what they are worth

Dale
