It's total meters that count, not when you do them or how fast you are. Besides, your half a million meters gives those of us farther back something to aim for. We like all meters equally.<br /><br />Alice, I donate every 8 weeks. The San Diego Blood Bank brings a mobile unit to our company every 8 weeks so we just go out to the bus in the parking lot. Makes it very simple.

Bill - hope you stay aboard! <br /><br />I had high hopes of catching and passing Ken Munn today - however, it appears that Ken is going to make me chase him... I needed 12K or so to catch him, but decided to do 14+ to give a little extra padding.... after I log my meters I find that Ken must have pulled 12K or so and I'm still 10K down... Actually, this isn't all bad given that the next person ahead of Ken is 150K away... as long as Ken stays active I will have someone to chase... <br /><br />RowPro and W.I.S.E have really pulled out ahead of us... They must have added a number of members or had a bunch who were stock-piling meters? <br /><br />Oh well, onward we row! <br /><br />Jim S.

Weight Loss/ Weight Control
Hello all,<br />I am rowing to loose weight and would like to join this forum. I have been rowing at home for 3 months now, have lost only 10 lbs. and am down from 220 to 210, so am a bit frustrated. My goal is 180. However, I LOVE to eat well and enjoy good wine, so have not been as focused as I need to be when reducing calories. At 51 years old, I should know better. I try row 10000 6 days a week at home and augment by weight lifting 45 min 2-3 times a week at the gym. My times have improved and I have increased my 'rank' in my age group but I do wish I would loose faster! Any tips?<br />By the way, what does it mean when you say RowProw and WISE are ahead? <br />Finally, for those posting who have been ill, keep trying to do something every day, even if it's not rowing! I am in the same boat as you, the same weight and the same goal. I hit a plateu for a month or two/three. It may not show on the scales but it does show on your body, I recently found my hips after being lost for a decade or so! Just keep the total calorie intake down and the exercise up and it will start to move again. Keep it simple, it's weight loss not rocket science!

Makes it very simple. <br />[/quote]<br /><br />Perhaps the nicest "get well" gesture was a neighbor who went to the Red Cross and donated when he heard that I had used up 12 units. It struck me as a totally meaningful and practical gesture. So far, recuperation has been smooth. No pain from the incision and a surprising range of motion. Fatigue is the biggest factor right now. Hopefully, I will be clocking meters by mid-November.<br /><br />Bill<br />

Losing 10 lbs in 3 months is not too bad.. consider how long it probably took you to put on the weight.. Its great to have short term goals to measure our progress, but since you've made the investment to buy an erg, you should look at erging as a lifetime challenge. <br /><br />Just keep watching your diet, try to limit your calorie intake an eat good healthy foods as much as possible and keep working out. Even if you don't lose the weight as fast as you would like, at the very least you'll be in much better overall physical condition. You'll start to feel healthier and your heart, you body and muscles will thank you. <br /><br />-SF

When I was younger (from 23 on, before that I was a really fat child/teen) I could maintain my weight with the amount of working out I did regardless of the amount of food I consumed. Once I passed about 35 it became harder to maintain and really a losing battle taking me above 210 because well...I like to eat and viewed the working out as a free license to do so.<br /><br />Then - lay-off...bang 254. <br /><br />I had never been good at restricting my intake (chosing to do something rather than not do something) but on two occasions I did follow a program and one of those was the WW points which I found rather easy to stick to until another issue came up with side effects to the medication for an old injury (broken back).<br /><br />On June 27th I gave in and accepted that if I want to be at my proper weight I was going to have to reduce my intake below my output, weighing and recording everything I consume so as to not to allow extra points to sneak in.<br /><br />We are lucky in that it appears we enjoy the active life and working out as part of it.
