PM5 (firmware v15): Anomalous behavior when powered

Post by Hollywood_Kuma » September 30th, 2014, 2:33 am

With the PM3 and PM4 series monitors, if they are powered via the USB port, they stay on, come rain or shine, and never time out. This is helpful if one is rowing a long distance.

If you are half way through a marathon, and have to pause to answer a call of nature, you don't want to worry about the monitor powering down. Connecting the monitor to mains power avoided this problem.

With the PM5, however, it makes no difference if the monitor is powered or not. The time out for the monitor, although now increased to five minutes, kicks in regardless.

I think the optimal behavior would be for the PM5 monitor never to power down if power is connected. It would also make sense for the back-light to stay on permanently when power is connected.

I will look into this. Firmware version 15 will be published soon but will NOT have any corrections to this. Any updates or corrections will come in a future release.

Hey Scott can you put my name down for Beta testing of your new monitors ? will happily send you a report of the fixes required before it hits the market and would love to get involved with the design phase. Just send me a free one and I will get it sorted for you !
