I know phpbb offers this oddly worded but useful feature. Could you activate it?

It's a quick way to browse active topics without having to log in. And because it doesn't rely on logging in, you're not hosed if you log off (or are automatically logged off) before you've had a chance to look at all the "Since Last Visit" search results. Know what I mean?

Bump it like you mean it.

I'd be happy to activate it, if you can tell me how - I couldn't see anything in the administration screens about it.

Thanks, Paul! I'll do a little digging. In the meantime, here's a forum that employs the feature, in case you can deconstruct their code or something. (Note: on that forum, the 24h option seems to work well, but 12h, 48h, & 72h seem a little spotty.)

Any progress? The best I've come up with is that it's a popular mod called "get daily" that uses the search template. But I'm a print person, not a web gee... er, person, so I dunno beyond that.

Maybe I'm the only one who experiences this: I log in, get sidetracked or called away, and eventually the forum times me out. So I log back in, but now the time span "since last visit" is a couple of hours rather than a couple of days. Just happened to me again this morning, dang.

If no one else is bothered by that, then I will cease to bother you about it.

There was a discussion of the "Active Posts" feature from the old forum and a desire to have it here, which seems to address exactly the issue you're having problems with. PaulH told us on March 16ththe status of a number of the requests on that thread.

Haven't heard more on that since, but I thought I'd let you know since you might be interested in following that as well...

Last 24 hours - I've not been able to turn up the actual code, just references to it through my googling. If you can find the source I'll take a look, but the fact that it's an add-in makes me dubious as we have a low pain threshold when it comes to making changes that will need maintenance.

Active Posts - Still haven't worked this out! If there are suggestions I'm listening

I would also like this feature.

Right now there is no way to find the most recent listings in order, except "most recent posts".

However if you reboot the browser then it doesn't show any at all.

Many message boards show a history of the threads, with the most recent ones first.

Paul, there are loads of this type of thing at http://www.phpbbhacks.com/ Of course, they mean getting your hands dirty with the forum scripts, but that should be straightforward enough.

I think this one will do the trick. The file is called "getdaily.php" so would appear to be the one cited higher up this thread. The installation instructions looks simple enough.

The installation isn't (necessarily) a problem, the bigger issue is potentially having to reinstall after avery upgrade, which goes against one of the ideas of moving to this format (easy upgrades under our control for security purposes). But I'll take a look!

Well, I think the installation instructions are only there so you can "integrate" it into the standard pages with a link. There are no instructions to edit getdaily.php itself, so it may work standalone, as long as people remember the URL of the page, e.g. http://www.c2forum.com/getdaily.php?hours=24 (note, that's entirely speculative on my part, and I haven't tried it).

I think it would be great to implement this feature on displaying the last 24 hours of posts. One of the "problems" with this current forum seems to be much reduced traffic and interest, and it is possible that is because there is no easy way to review what has been going on.

The view posts since last visit doesn't really sub for this, because I may read a post and want to reply, but decide to reply later, say when I am home from work, and by then the thread has dropped off the page and disappeared, and I forget to go back.

Out of all the forums I have seen, this is the only one that doesn't show the most recent posts.

I've added the getdaily script to the forum, though I haven't yet provided any links to it. For now just bookmark:

http://www.c2forum.com/getdaily.php?hours=12

And you'll get the last 12 hours of posts. Changing the number at the ends will change the number of hours. Alternatively:

http://www.c2forum.com/getdaily.php

gives you the last 24 hours.

No promises, but hopefully I'll get round to adding a link.
