Garmin Connect Integration

The Concept2 Logbook and Garmin Connect need the ability to connect so that indoor rowing workouts saved to
https://log.concept2.com/ will sync automatically to Garmin Connect (without the need for a Connect IQ enabled watch or 3rd party app). Also, integration with FitnessSyncer would open a lot of doors in this area. Thanks!

Yes. I have addressed this at Garmin. I thought this was also a place where C2 would see it and help raise awareness.

I suppose ýou have seen this:
https://log.concept2.com/blog/integrati ... -platforms
According to that post, C2 has enabled automatic synchronization with Strava, Fitbit and Trainingpeaks. But for Garmin they have only enabled download of a .fit file which you can upload manually to Garmin Connect.
The post states no reason for this difference, but my guess would be that Garmin were less willing to participate than the tree other services were, so C2 did what they could within that limitation.

Allan, yes I have seen that. I am requesting automatic synchronization. From others I have spoken with outside of C2 it seems there is an issue with the C2 files or api (depending on who I talk to). When I asked C2 support they seemed to think the issue was with everyone else. I just want to get this straightened out and make sure everyone is not waiting for everyone else.

I know that there has earlier been a problem with the .tcx (and .fit?) files created by the C2 log. They contained additional, empty laps, and Garmin Connect couldn't parse them correctly.
Since then, C2 has corrected this error - meaning that all laps now are collected in one big lap - so now the files can be imported in Garmin Connect without errors.
So another theory about the reason for the missing Garmin integration could be this:
Because of the lap bug, C2 couldn't get Garmin integration up and running while they did the Strava/Fitbit/TP integration. Later, they solved the bug, but didn't find the time to get their integration project finished. But this is pure guesswork from me.

Concept2 support has said they plan to add Garmin Connect integration in the near future. But they have told me a few different stories so who knows. Fingers crossed! If this sounds like a useful feature to you send them an email at
ranking@concept2.com to let them know.

The .FIT files can be imported to Garmin but has the wrong timezone. .TCX is fine.

But it is stll not automatic and that is what this thread is about. Concept2 Logbook > edit profile > applications. FIT files should be standardized and you should be able to move them between two places. I'm not sure why this is such a problem but I want Concept2 and Garmin to get on the same page and make this work.

I am using Fitbit but uploading/sending Concept2 log to Fitbit log is an issue; C2 log only sends manually entered data, it does not send the data synconized using ErgData app to the Fitbit log. Additionally, there is even a more annoing problem, the C2 log does not contain a time stamp for the activity. The missing time stamp makes it impossible to allign the Fitbit recorded data (Hart rate data) with the activity data, Fitbit adds a default time stamp of 12:00 to the uploaded activity log data.
So, C2 would need to start by adding a time stamp for the activity to their online log first.

I use ErgData and have my C2 logbook account connected to TrainingPeaks and Fitbit. They both sync automatically with no issues including what you mentioned.

From what I've heard is that garmin offers API access to GC only if you are willing to pay them $5k+.. so maybe that's one issue along the road..
Anyway I've tried using a workaround creating a trainingpeaks account and setup a sync: log->tp and GC->TP but unfortunately the GC-TP sync is only unidirectional and data does only get transferred one way. (or didn't I wait long enough?)
I also tried the app "syncmytracks". Data get synced but was incomplete.. Does anyone else has experience with syncing using 3rd party apps or workaround using e.g. strava?

From what I have heard speaking with various developers I dont expect this integration to ever happen. When I asked Fitnessyncer why I couldnt put data into Garmin Connect (only sync out of Garmin) they told me it was against Garmins terms to do so. I speculate that this is because Garmin is a company which sells devices and as a business it will not directly make them money to manage more data. You dont see the Concept2 Logbook offering to track your running afterall. Still, I can keep bugging Garmin and dreaming that someday all of my data will be in one place. Feel free to submit a feature request to them:

If you use Fit files then you could use Golden Cheetah to track fitness sessions. Oddly C2's TCX files aren't loaded into Golden Cheetah either but the Fit files are. TCX is in xml format and there is a schema to check that TCX files conform ... should be easy to make sure that TCX files are correct or at least to the published schema.

The goal here is to get everything into Garmin Connect. I am not interested in using Golden Cheetah. Thanks though!
