one thing I'm now experiencing is a change to my log in. I enter my username and password, and it comes back "you've exceeded your maximum number of login attempts", and asks me to log in again, this time adding a captcha; "I'm not a robot".
This happened again yesterday. The forum had signed me out, which it shouldn't have done. I put in my user name, the correct password, and clicked to keep me logged in. However, the login failed, and the "you've exceeded your maximum" was there at the top. I proceeded to check the capcha questions, which probably took more than 100 attempts to get through, i.e. the capcha was not working properly.

The same thing happened again today a few minutes ago. (1) I was signed out, which shouldn't have happened. (2) My correct user name and password were not accepted the first time. (3) The "exceeded your maximum" message appeared again with the capcha. (4) The capcha was again not working properly, and took about 15 screen changes today. Fortunately my name and password were accepted the second time.

The login is not working properly.
I ended up having the same experience, minus captcha not working. But my original correct information was denied, and then I was forced to do the captcha a few times BECAUSE I figured I just forgot my password and started going through the next ones on my mental list.

It's still happening to me, but every now and then, it goes through just fine on the first attempt. Lindsayh and I have both tried to get the C2 forum folks to work on it, but evidently to no avail. It's apparently not a big priority, or not enough of us forum users have complained yet.

FYI FORUM LOGIN FAILURES

I suggest that those having difficulty with, or unable to, login to the forum send an email to David Hart or Dena Hirchak @ ranking@concept2.com, reference request #24705, and describe the messages, prompts and security protocols which accompany your failed login attempts.

Jack and I have at least been (at last) able to engage with David Hart who is theoretically responsible for the operation of the Forum. Still no explanation or even acknowledgement of their ignoring our approaches over the past 9 months. My attempts today were still blocked and he has that feedback as well as what is here. As Jack has said keep it coming to the ranking@ address attn David.
This is the exchange yesterday:

Subject: C2 Forum login difficulties
Hi Jack,
I have been out the office for most of the last week, but I made a change last Saturday that should have fixed this problem in the short term. It looks like due to changes in hosting, people were coming through from behind a proxy on the server, which made all the IP addresses look the same, which meant it was easy to fail the test.
Hopefully this should be fixed now, but please let me know if you have any further issues.
Best

Hi David
I have just tried again this morning at work and there is no change – I am still unable to log in at all even after satisfying Captcha – it says my password is wrong. At home yesterday it allowed me in without Captcha and I think at least once with no Robot Box ticking. If you have a look at the C2 thread under bug reports you will see a new report Friday of continuing problems that match exactly what we are seeing. Not fixed I am afraid.

Encouraging news this A.M. on the login failure front from David Hart @ Concept 2. I logged out and in just now. Flawless!! I have yet to see if wife can log on from same home IP but sure looks fixed to me.

Hi Jack,

Now I'm back in the office, I've made a more persistent fix for the maxed login attempts, so this should hopefully no longer be an issue going forward.

If your wife still has issues logging in, please let me know.

Best,

Seems to be working properly on my end now as well. Thanks for passing the information along to the folks who can help us.

Thank you to Lindsay and others for your persistence in ( mega optimism here🙏🏻👍 ) sorting out the signing in problems.

It's hard enough being techlexic, without having to keep proving that I'm not a robot.🤖

Again, many thanks.

Jill :)

You’re welcome, Jill.

The takeaway from this episode for the average technoputz should be that finding the proper door to knock on is paramount to getting the attention of the proper squeak greaser. Doug (Citroen) frequently repeats the admonition that Concept 2 does not employ anyone to monitor forum content. C2Jon certainly offered a sympathetic ear to member complaints and he may have occasionally given a timely headsup to those manning the official channels of disposition and resolution but no more.

It’s obvious to all that the links and addys provided by Doug appeared to go nowhere. (I have used the zendesk portal with positive outcome on another forum.) Imagine my amazement that I could go old school, call C2 customer service on the phone and immediately get an email addy for Mr. Hart which resulted in, as the Scifi fans have it, “first contact”!

We’re still living in a world where a lucky strike now and again reminds us that those who appear to be ignoring us simply haven’t received our signals. No WIFI? Use cable. Unable to cable? Send carrier pigeon. No pigeons? Make smoke!

Thanks Jill - I think it is all fixed now. I haven't had to prove I'm not a robot either and I think my peripheral issue with a password thing is resolved too.
Persistence shouldn't have been needed of course but as Jack has said the lines of communication are not well defined and they ignored many attempts to contact. It is a bit weird because in general C2 customer service is one of its strengths. We can give them a tick for responding.
