I have a VB6 application talking to a PM4 -and it works nicely on an old Toshiba laptop. Same application, same ergo, same USB cable on new Dell laptop and no communication!
USB cable is 2 metres.
Old laptop would be USB 1.0...and new is USB 2.0.
Any other people had this problem?

USB connectivity - different laptops
I've connected my PMs to a whole bunch of USB 1.0 and 2.0 hardware as well as several different makes of USB hub. If the monitor is listed as a Human Interface Device in device manager then the physical stuff is working.
Have you tried any other PM software on the Dell? Examples: The LogCard Utility or the SDK test application.
Only one application can use the PM at a time (file_share_none). It's possible some other application or service on the Dell is claiming and locking the device before you're able to launch the VB6 app.

I did try the default programs as well as my PM application.
Good point about checking the device manager... and any other app or service getting in before my app.
I have also realized that the PMI will 'wake up' upon connection to USB...so I will check that.
Good to know it is not a USB 1.0/2.0 thing.
