Which MacOSX IOKit functions to use?

Now that a logcard reader software is now available for MacOSX, could you please give some hints which functions of the IOKit to use to set up a communication with the PM3/4 ?

The OS X support for the readers is very limited, and it would be great as part of software being made to work with the older readers that a new software SDK for OS X be brought to the masses. with 10+ % of the market OS X now, it would make some sense to make software developers able to read and manage data from the PM3/4 and cards with their own software.
