Reset pm and keep alive command.

Hi all.
I'm developing an application on Windows talking to the PM via USB.
I'm getting some weirdness when trying to reset a work out.
What is the recommended way to reset everything and put the PM in to just row. All the reset commands I've tried don't seem to do much.
Also is there any sort of keep alive message I can send to keep the counters from resetting during periods of inactivity?
