I just posted a legitimate question concerning the Moderator’s conduct in the thread about music below. It got removed. I posted it here because it is directly relevant to the last thread and this is the most used forum. Perhaps Citroen can explain why it was moved, while also explaining his reaction to the poster’s question regarding music below.

Update: I now received a PM telling me to “keep out of it” and attempting to justify the conduct on the basis that the offense was said to be the use of offensive language. My issue isn’t the policing of offensive language, but Citroen’s response to the original question, which clearly provoked the offensive language and was rude. Citroen- let’s have this discussion in the open.

If you want to be the forum moderator then ask nicely, you can have the rotten job.
If you want folks using offensive language then just ask for it.

Otherwise mind your own business.

BTW, forum use belongs in viewforum.php?f=12 not in Training.

i am glad we are discussing this publicly though - that way others can make up their mind. i would ask that we be allowed to continue to discuss it - that's all. nobody has to take part if they don't want to.

Citroen - just relax and look at your response to the guy’s perfectly innocent and friendly question. Do you think that was reasonable? Do you think that was how a moderator should behave? I have zero interest in being the moderator, but perhaps if you hate it so much and insist on taking that out on others, you shouldn’t be doing it either.

Having been a moderator and super moderator on a very large (100,000 plus member) site for near twenty years, I can tell you that being a good moderator is not easy and is an art requiring both diplomatic and technical skills.

Frankly, I don't think engaging in public argument with a member and flexing muscle "just because you can" is indicative of particularly good skills as a moderator.

If I get banned for my comments so be it, no one will even know I'm gone since I read much more than I actively participate here.

But clearly this heavy handed style of moderation does no one any good...and imho does not speak well for C2 as a brand. It tarnishes the name.

The new guy was unnecessarily rude to me. We need to all agrees that "music to row to" threads are extremely tedious - so I told him that. He then gets rude and sweary.

I've unlocked the original thread so it can continue on its own tedious way.

I was not rude to you, I did not insult you, I simply said if you thought my thread is boring maybe don't read it. I said a swear word which was totally undirected at anyone in saying that.

I have since apologised for swearing, I'll reiterate, if my use of the word offended you I am sorry, it was not my intention to use the word in an aggressive way, in fact I was hoping my comment would defuse the fact that you seemed annoyed I started the thread.

Once again I am happy to extend an olive branch and forget the whole thing, perhaps in return you might unlock my thread and anyone who cares can contribute to it. That's up to you, just as it's up to you whether to let it rest and accept my apology.

Not interested in the job, nor am I attempting to denigrate you.

Everyone, including myself, has had a bad day or made mistakes in the way something was handled when moderating a thread or post. I applaud your reopening the thread. If it is tedious it will die under its own weight...no need for it to become the source of ill feelings or harsh words between members, or members and moderators. If it devolves out of control, then closing it or taking action would be justified, imho.

Because it doesn't tell you or me anything useful. Your choice of music is probably way different to mine. I honestly couldn't care less what you listen to in the gym or at home. It doesn't make my rowing change. If you want lists of junk go and visit buzzfeed.
