Why can a moderator lock a thread they don't like?

Seems worthy of discussion. I posted a fairly innocent question and someone trolled me then locked my thread.

I think this is bad forum behaviour and shouldn't be allowed. I am not the antagonist here by any means.

I can lock, delete and ask for you to be banned.

Play by the rules (and that includes not using offensive words) or don't play at all.
