Has this board tried mandatory admin approval of first post?

I've been deleting posts from sleeper accounts but Is there a way to flag them for deletion so we don't have to keep cleaning up after those accounts?

I think I wasn't clear. I was wondering if there's a way to flag the accounts for deletion, not the posts. For instance there was a huge "Catching Fire" movie thread with multiple posts from the same sleeper account. I deleted all the posts but there's nothing stopping that account from making more posts. Likewise, even though the new posts from new accounts aren't reaching the board, the account could still make posts, no? But if the accounts were actually banned/deleted then eventually all sleeper accounts would be nullified and new accounts would take less bandwidth.

I have to say the board is a happier place with the crud beginning to come under control.

I think so too. There's still a lot of spam being posted but at least it is being quarantined effectively and it's easier to just clear out the first post queue then having to pick them out of real message board activity. Now if there were just a way to further cut down on the spammer registrations then it'd be even better.

How on earth do you delete a post that is sent by someone else? I used to just click on the marks topic read button after reading the legitimate posts of the sub-forum the spam was in - if I recognized it as spam from the topic name and/or the senders name. Lately I have been opening them so that I can click on the spam alert button in order to call it to the monitors' attention.I got that idea from this thread. Before reading this thread, I didn't realize what that button was.

I was asked to join the spam team which enables the ability to delete spam posts. Previous to that, I too had been just marking posts as spam similar to what you're doing now.

The current (pre-approval) measures (give or take some slippery customers who are getting spam on here) are working better than ever.

Ah! That explains it. Thanks, guys. I guess that I will just stick to marking them and making occasional observations - like the one today, which was one of the UK *** DELETE - SPAM *** hangovers from the URL switch a few months ago.
