Usage, UK vs US
Usage, UK vs US
I haven't been following the UK forum for quite some time, but I checked into it a few minutes ago and saw that there 76 online. On going back to the US forum, I found only 2. The difference in population size makes this discrepancy even more pronounced.
I am just wondering why it is so.

You are correct. I read the 'new posts' on both sites every morning and find the UK site regularly has 3-4 times as many posts as the US site and they usually are more interesting

I've noticed for quite a long time that Dougie has been regularly encouraging people to go to the UK forum. I think what we're seeing is the natural result of that.
Just my observation.

I only encourage the folks who post *.co.uk urls or are posting from IP addresses that are located in GB/IE. It's usually the folks who arrive during my normal daytime hours.Alissa wrote:I've noticed for quite a long time that Dougie has been regularly encouraging people to go to the UK forum. I have observed that, but, as far as I could tell, it was always someone from the UK or someone asking a question (like about rugby) that would be better answered on the UK forum.Alissa wrote:I've noticed for quite a long time that Dougie has been regularly encouraging people to go to the UK forum. I have probably been more remiss than Dougie in that regard. Whenever I suggest that someone post a video of their technique, I suggest that they send it to both forums. I feel that it is good advice, since it is likely to get a broader response on the UK forum.
If one subtracts the ranger thread and a couple of team threads from this forum, there would hardly be anything left. My feeling is that there is far more interest in erging in the UK because they have lots more erg competitions going on and there is more variety in those competitions, such as distances (or times) other than the 2k and there also seems to be team competitions. Whether or not that is possible in the US, it is hard to say. Most of the potential participants that I know prefer to spend their time on the water, but that is in California.

The uk side has the Blogs, those are very very populair there and get by far the most attention. Plus they don't have a nutty Pro..Bob S. wrote:I haven't been following the UK forum for quite some time, but I checked into it a few minutes ago and saw that there 76 online. if we didn't have the Nutty Prof a unified forum would be a possibility.
He's banned from the main part of the other forum (not from the blogs - which he used for a while until the lack of attention moved him back here). The ban was largely due to the abuse from the followers his thread brings with it.

Looking at the UK forum, it appears that there are a lot more threads for coordinating teams and rowpro stuff than over here. On this forum, the only equivalent is really the Luna-tics thread. There are some threads with excellent content about training and exercise physiology. I have a blog on the UK site and I haunt the forum, but I haven't posted much over there. I fear if I spend too much time on the UK site, I will start spelling color with a "u" and lobbing the word "knackered" about.
