newest comments first?

I like to see the latest comments listed first, not last as is the default. Can we have the "display posts from previous... oldest first... Go" row that appears at the bottom of the page, copied to the comment header? Or better yet can we have a new default setting?

I like the older posts first, as it is easier to read longer threads which I haven't been following closely or at all.

I wouldn't object to the "display newer posts first" option for those who would use it.

The forum software can't do that. It's also extremely illogical.

Consider this:

A: It's two o'clock
Q: What time is it?

versus

Q: What day of the week is it?
A: Saturday.

Top-posting is the product of a warped mind. Bottom posting is much more sane.

Entertainly enough, if you look at the forum when you've logged on, you'll notice a "right-pointing arrow and a little yellow page-shaped icon" to the left of the name of some of the threads. Those will be the threads that have new posts since you were last logged in. If there aren't new posts, on a thread, you won't see the arrow/yellow icon.

If you click on the little yellow page-shaped icon, the board's software will take you to the oldest post you haven't yet read, and you can continue reading to the newest post in the fashion Dougie suggests. (I'd suspect Dougie--like most of us--takes advantage of this feature to avoid reading threads "from beginning to end, over and over and over")

Not only that, but I also use http://c2forum.com/getdaily.php?hours=48 as my home page for this forum.

That's fine if you log on, which I never do unless I intend to send a message or read one that I decide to answer. I generally use the system that Dougie mentioned in his message, except that I have mine set for 36 (i.e. hours) rather than the 48 that he uses.

There is one catch. the first few times I tried to log on directly from that page, the system let me go through the entire procedure and then said that I had to log on! Eventually it sunk in that I needed to keep 2 links in my bookmarks, the last 36 hour page ("Search") and the regular log on page ("Index").

Clumsy system, but it works if I am at least half awake when I open whichever page I need at the time.

This is a bit convoluted, but here goes. You can append ?postorder=des onto the end of a thread or forum url to see the last posts first.

So http://www.c2forum.com/viewforum.php?f=3 takes you to the training forum, and http://www.c2forum.com/viewforum.php?f=3?postorder=des shows the same thing, but with the more recent posts first.

The number of each forum can be obtained by hovering your mouse over each link on the index page (http://www.c2forum.com/viewforum.php). So, for "FAQ" f=2; for "Health & Fitness" f=4; for "Competition" f=6; etc..

If you append ?postorder=des onto the index page url you just get an error message, so you have to be in a forum.

You can do the same thing in a specific topic too, so http://www.c2forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=3 takes you to the latest post in the /Training/What Training Have You Done Today? thread.

I know nothing about scripting langs like Greasemonkey, but you may be able to automate an otherwise tedious process.
