do i have to buy this?

Post by shevchenko » November 21st, 2009, 1:23 pm

i found a second hand concept 2 model d. with pm3 monitor.
he says serial number is 030804/7
so it s a 2004 model i think. he said he purchased it from someone else and said him it s a 2008 model.

new one price is 2000 dollars here( i m not in USA)
and this second hand is 800 dollars.

i read that in 2006 , concept 2 changed and became more silence .
and handle is more ergonomic. and maybe some other extra features.

what do u recommend to me?
do i have to make more money and buy a new one? or there s no important difference and do i have to buy this second hand one?

thank u.

it says,
In August 2006, we redesigned the framelock and footstretchers for easier separation and a cleaner look.

so seperation of this 2004 model is not easy maybe.
wish it was a 2007 model :( i would buy it for sure

I have a 1997 "C" and it is very easy. I can't imagine that the 2004 would be any harder

The model D2 was a minor change (new paint job, new framelock, better footplates) from the model D. There was nothing in the changes that made it any quieter. The handle was the same.

The model C was the noisier machine with the straight wooden handle.

Look at the monitor, if the PM3 (with recent firmware has a count of lifetime metres). Main menu --> More Options --> Utilities --> Product ID.

A six year old home machine (at 40% of list price) is probably a good bargain. A six year old machine from a public gym may not be such good value as you may need to replace worn parts.

Buy the second hand Model C erg.
The ergonomic handle on the Model D is neither here nor there and many prefer the straight handle of the Model C.

The Model C erg also sounds better. C2 in its quest for a quieter erg to please the gym market in my opinion has taken a step in the wrong direction. The model D erg has a weak sickly tinny sound about it that can become very irritating and explains why some people have motivational problems to erg.

You only have to try the ergs of some of C2s competitors to realize this. They have a much more macho gruntier sound about them.
PBs: 2K 6:13.4, 5K 16:32, 6K 19:55, 10K 33:49, 30min 8849m, 60min 17,309m
Caution: Static C2 ergs can ruin your technique and timing for rowing in a boat.
The best thing I ever did to improve my rowing was to sell my C2 and get a Rowperfect.

USB cable is a stock standard 5 metre printer cable. USB-A to USB-B.

The USB-A plug goes in the computer, the USB-B plug goes in the bottom of the monitor next to where the lead from the flywheel sensor goes.
