Too long legs for the slides on the concept2 erg

Hey

What do you do when your legs are to long for the concept2 rowing machine, when you kick out your legs, the seat crashes to the back before your legs are extended.

You can gain some length by moving the seat rollers. But, if you're absolutely mahoosive you'll need to contact C2 about getting the longer monorail.

That worked for one of the guys on the UK forum who's 6'9" with 38" in-seam. He got the seat rollers moved forward an inch and that stopped him hitting the backstops.

At 5'7" with a 31" in-seam I don't have that problem.

You can also gain some length by adjusting the foot stretcher towards the highest position (which moves it also towards the fly wheel). If this raises the feet too high you can try to find some way to raise the seat as well.

Also, a style in which the legs are not fully extended may not have to be that bad. Cutting of the length at the end allows one to make a faster turning point at the end and apply a higher force at the end (increasing the average force).

One has to make more strokes per minute but one does not need to move faster as one moves a shorter distance per stroke. If done well the higher force in the final phase of the stroke and the fast turning point allows an even slower movement resulting in increased efficiency by reducing the amount of lost energy needed by moving back and forward.

Similar effects can be suggested at the other end of the stroke where one does not necessarily need to move up to the full slide until the shins are fully vertical.
