My pm3 started giving erratic readings on the spm. spm would jump from 20's to the 80's. The monitor did it several times throughout my workout. If the monitor gives bad spm readings does this affect the other readings at all? Any info on why the monitor is acting this way would be appreciated.

Were you rowing at very low rates? If you get below 10 spm it will give results like you described. 10 is the lower limit. There is probably also an upper limit, but I don't know what it is.

In that case, it sounds like you should contact Concept 2 directly, either by telephone or e-mail.

Sounds like a dirty/bad pickup or bad wire. The PM is going to record a "stroke" each time the recorded RPMs dips. If the pickup is dirty, it's going to record additional "strokes" each time the pickup kicks in again, even if it happens multiple times on a real stroke.
I've found if my rating dips below 10, it doesn't wrap anything, as the PM stops recording meters entirely after six seconds, hence no SPM reading at all.
x2 on calling C2 for advice. I suspect they'll want you to check for excess dirt, and if that isn't present, install a new pickup.

Make sure the plug is pushed all the way into the back of the monitor.

Once you're on the LCD Contrast menu press [change units] three times, then press [change display] three times. That brings up a hidden menu, on the hidden menu you can choose what model of rower the PM3 is mouted on.
If the PM3 is an early model then there's also a circuit board jumper that needs to be moved to define the model to the hardware.
There's also a firmware bug where the PM3 will miss read the sensor on a model C. I get that in the gym on all six model Cs that have PM3s. So you need to upgrade the firmware to at least V101. Once the latest beta releases have gone gold I'll do a more formal test and report the error to ScottH [at] concept2 [dot] com if it still happens.
