Drag Factor Readings

Post by jkalmes » October 4th, 2008, 12:20 pm

I have a model B with a PM2(new) monitor, with the damper closed I got a 180 drag reading, rowed about 5 min, it read constant. Adj damper to half open and rowed for 5 min and drag reading was 215, then opened damper 100 percent and rowed for 5 min and drag was 240. Are these good numbers and what should I row at? I've been at this about a month, so still a newbie. Thanks, Jeff

also I'm using the 15 tooth cog

jk,

You can search this board for information on drag factor settings. Usually higher drag factors cause your technique to emphasize the back and arms more than the legs.

On a B the 15 tooth sprocket will give you a lower drag than the 13/14 tooth. (John Rupp, correct me here if I'm in error). Check the machine 's postion in the room. Sometimes that can affect the drag simply because of how the air is getting forced into the fan. And then see John Rupp's posts on making speed rings to further adjust the drag.
