Free Concept 2 B

Post by wjvill » July 17th, 2008, 12:14 pm

I just got offered a free concept 2 model B. Is it worth it or should I just buy a used more updated model? Any difference between B and C or is it just cosmetic pretty much. New to rowing and I hope to be a regular contributor soon.

It's kind of a Classic, but the new ones are really a lot better as well as quieter.

A used modelB for free is definitely a great deal.

I would take one immediately with no hesitation. :)

You can always sell or give it away later, and get an updated model.

The B is very well made. It is noisier and heavier the C, D or E. It does not come apart for easy storage. Depending on if it has been upgraded, it will have a less versatile monitor, the handle is probably straight instead of curved, the foot stretchers may be wood, and the seat may be different. At lightest load it will have a higher drag factor--this can be gotten around by adding a "Speed Ring" from C2 and adding some duct tape or something to the top to block air flow.

While I like the foot stretchers, seat, handle, and monitor better on my D, they are just fine on the B. For me the real problem with the B was the noise. I row out doors and often didn't use the B for fear of waking up the neighbors.

But it is a really good machine.

She reneged on the offer to give it to me. Turns out her MOM wants it. I am soooo cheesed off! Back to the drawing board.
