writing data to log card

Post by ex99125b » February 10th, 2015, 2:14 pm

Simple question.
your workout comes to an end, you stop rowing...
in order for the workout data to be written to the log card immediately, preserving your true elapsed time, do you have to push any buttons?
The online manual (pm3) says that the data is saved to the card automatically, but I seem to be having a problem, sometimes it is saved ( I see the "dont pull the card" nulled circle icon)
sometimes it isnt. Im sure I am at fault, I just dont know the sequence. I have tried immediately pushing the "menu back" button.
Does it take a longer time than I think ( >10 seconds) Not sure how to make it work.
TIA

Press the [BACK] button or wait for four minutes.

There are some cases when a timeout can occur and your data won't be on your card.

That's the time out if you have an active workout. That means there are metres left to reach zero or the timer hasn't gone to zero.

It's different for "Just Row" workouts as the monitor doesn't know when a "Just Row" is going to terminate it can't do anything until the 4 minute time out.

The monitor won't detect you're not rowing for six seconds.
Any button presses apart from [BACK] reset the four minute time out timer.
The [BACK] button terminates any workout as long as the six seconds of not rowing timer has expired.

Once a timer reaches zero, a rest timer (only on the last interval of a set of intervals:variable) reaches zero or the metres left reach zero that signals the end of workout. If you're doing intervals:distance or intervals:time then the workout isn't finished until you've rowed 30 intervals (how would it know you're done).

The only 100% guaranteed way to get the data hardened on your logcard is by pressing the [BACK] button.

Pretty much you need to do set timed pieces or set distance pieces.

The "Just Row" just doesn't appear to put anything into memory, that includes the 10 memories you have built into the PM3 if you have the current firmware or the LogCard.

I get numerous PM3's to repair and there is nothing at all in the memory.

Always program a set distance or time for your row and it will save it. Use the favourites to speed things up by saving what it is you row most often.

Thanks, both.
I asked the question because I have started my rowing experience with rowing 2k's ( Select Workout->2k m ) and pressing the back button immediately when finished. monday it didnt save. I didnt pull the card too fast, and I know it was inserted correctly because I looked at the log card history, I mistook a previous workout for the just completed one and assumed it was right. Got home and discovered the error.

So...pushing the back button stops the workout and triggers saving to memory/card, likewise, reaching "0" on a distance row does the same thing. I wonder if there is any interaction between doing both? Or perhaps there was some other timing issue which prevented the card from writing ( it had at least 30 seconds to write )

I guess I will experiment, next time at the gym

If it's a gym machine the firmware may be way back level. Take a look at Main menu --> More Options --> Utilities --> Product ID

If it's less than V100 you'd need a Windows laptop with the special V100 firmware loader. If it's 100 or later you can use the C2 Utility on Win or Mac to get the firmware right up to date.

Yeah, the pm3 is at 310, the latest being 315.
I watched the screen and timing pretty carefully last night and played around a little.
When the monitor writes to the card, a screen appears with an icon of the card, down arrows, and the int'l symbol for "dont"--dont pull the card, I'm writing.
This screen does not appear when the workout gets to zero (it was a 2km standard list, workout). I waited--not 4 minutes though--and as soon as I pushed the back key, the icon screen came up.
So the bottom line is, last nights workout was written, transferred and uploaded.

thanks for your help and advice.

With ErgData and BoatCoach installed on this phone, I navigated to Bluetooth settings on the phone and also navigated on the PM5 to turn wireless on. The PM5 appears on my phone as an ‘available device’. When I select it, the phone states that it is in the process of ‘pairing...’. At the same time, the PM5 displays ‘Connection successful’ and a Bluetooth symbol appears at the top of the PM5 screen. However, the phone never progresses to displaying the PM5 as being connected. Instead, the phone’s display reverts to listing the PM5 as an ‘available device’. Concurrently, the Bluetooth symbol disappears from the PM5’s display. When I open up the ErgData and BoatCoach apps, both indicate that they are not connected to the PM5.
