Should I bother with the repair kit for my D?
I have a Model D with the structural issue and a repair kit but haven't installed it. I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle. IOW, if only a small fraction of Ds have problems I'd rather just take my chances, esp given that I'm not mechanically inclined. The erg only has about 250k lifetime meters so far and doesn't see heavy use. TIA.

There are some well documented cases of the front of the model D breaking.
If you don't install the kit what happens when your warranty expires; if your machine breaks after that you'll be up the creek without a paddle.
Concept2 wouldn't provide it as an end-user fitted repair if it wasn't possible for most untrained users to fit the kit.
If you're concerned you should phone Concept2.

I would install the kit. Stress fractures can propagate pretty quickly once they decide to go. Even if you are not heavy, the rail flexs a little every time you go up and down the rail bringing it another step toward failure. Keep in mind, failure may be much more costly than a replacement part if you get injured in the process.

Model D structural issue
Can some one tell me what is this structural issue, I bought a model D Nov 2006, no repair kit, just over 1M meters use. Should I be worried

I agree the repair kit is annoying, however it only takes about 45 minutes to install.
Robert, I think all ergs produced after a certain date, already have the repair kit installed.
Hopefully newer ergs will be stronger, and not subject to the damage.
