I bought it directly from C2 in '95. I've used it pretty much continuously 3 - 5 times a week since then. I oil the chain and clean the rail every month or so and change the battery in the PM3 when needed. Beyond that, no other maintenance or repairs. I've decided to upgrade to a Model D so I'll be selling the Model C. What do you think it's worth? I've looked on ebay and craigslist but none are listed.
Thanks in advance to all who reply.
What's my C worth?
I am not sure what it is worth; still quite a bit probably $3-500.
Why do you want to upgrade to a D? Not much difference that would be worth the additional cost. Do you have a PM3 (ie you upgraded the display on your C already) or is that a typo and you mean a PM2?
A C with a PM3 is pretty much the same as a D, minus the blue paint and running a bit quieter.

You're right. "PM3" is a typo; I have a PM2. Since I originally submitted this post, I've been browsing the forum and I've pretty much come to the same conclusion. The only thing the newer machine offers me that I would want is quieter operation, and maybe a different handle.
I've already had to move the erg to a different room. Not because somebody in my house complained about the noise, but rather because it disturbed my neighbor on the other side the party wall. It wasn't the noise from the rower so much, as it was the elevated volume from the TV (necessary for me to hear over the noise of the rower).
As for the handle on my machine, the foam rubber grip on one side is separating from the wood and ever so gradually sliding off. As yet I haven't found a way to halt or reverse this process.
I'm also getting the impression from folks on this forum that the C machines are, in general. just a little bit more robust and solidly built than the D/E line, to say nothing of the more, um, manly color scheme of the C. Maybe that's why C2 in general, and the Model C in particular, seems to hold its its value so well.
So I think I'll keep my C and just get the upgrade bits. I figures it's time for a general overhaul anyway.

Good idea, I have a PM3 and a new handle on my model C. I don't worry about the noise, since I just turn up the volume.
I also recommend getting a cbreeze from PaulS and a copy of Rowpro to race online if you really want to get set up properly.

I sold a model C on Ebay for $677 a couple of years ago and a model B for $535, both with pm2 monitors.
You should be able to get $600-700 for a good model C.
You can reduce the noise by putting barriers between you and the noise, the chain being the noisiest part on the C. For example, attach foam padding or rubber from a truck tire innertube around the front of the cage, and around the uprights where the chain comes out.
The model D, which I like, is more quiet than the C. However, the pm2 is a much better monitor than the pm3/4.
I'd personally never have air blowing on me while I row. I tried that a few times quite a few years ago and it gets too much crud in your lungs. When the air has been questionable though, I have a few times turned a box fan on to blow -away- from the cage to the side. I use the same box fan in the house in the winter, to blow cold air towards the hot glass door of the fireplace insert. I duct taped a white 99.9% filter to the back of the box fan, making a $300 hepa filter for 25 bucks. In only one season of intermittent use, the filter has turned a dark brown.
