PM3 Display question

Post by icomefrombirmingham » November 15th, 2007, 12:05 pm

On my PM3, if I am using "Just Row" mode, I get three Split times showing on the monitor.
The larger (top half of the screen) number is the split for the last stroke.

What are the other two split numbers?

I am assuming that the next one down is the average split time for the current 500m.

And the bottom number is the average over the whole "piece-to-date"; so, if I have been rowing for 20 minutes, this last number is my accumulated average split per 500m since I started pulling.

Is this correct?

If so, how does the middle number work?

Let's say I start out slowly (2.25-2.20) and build up to a 1.58 pace over the first 500m of a 10,000m piece. At the 501th metre, the large upper number will be 1.58 (I have established my steady 1.58 over the first 500m and am maintaining it).
The lower box will be 1.58+ to account for the slower starting metres.
But the middle box...as I pass from the first 500m to the second does it pick up the current pace from the first stroke of the second 500 and use this as the starting average for the second 500? Or does it use some sort of rolling average?

1) Instantaneous display, i.e. the last stroke that you took;

2) Your overall pace;

3) Your pace for the current 5 minutes, which starts over at each 5 minute increment, regardless of the distance you are rowing.

If you're rowing a set pace, then the 3rd one will start over at the distance or time of each split that you've set. This, along with the force curve, is one of the two added functions that I particularly like on the pm3 monitor.

One is average since the start of the workout. The other is average for last rounded five mins (5:00,10:00,15:00,..., ad infinitum).

Just Row defaults to recording split info every five mins.

Thanks guys.
So the bottom-most split displayed is my average over the current 5 minutes, taken at 5 minute intervals. I get it.

How do you know this stuff?!
I looked at the C2 books and browsed around the PM3 screens and didn't find it!
