I've got a pair of slides (only had them for 3 or 4 months now) but I wonder if anyone else has had problems with sweat getting into the slides, in the bottom of the groove next to where the wheels run, at the open ends, which just happens to be where a lot of sweat has a tendency to drop into them during long workouts when it's warm...
The amount of sweat isn't as much now that it's cooler, but I see that there are places where rust has developed already. Once I noticed this, I started using paper towels after workouts to soak up the sweat that accumulated there. Still, I wonder if that's expected behavior, or if there are suggestions for what should be done about it in order to keep from having to replace the slides due to rusting-out prematurely.
Rust-O-Leum?
slides and sweat
Eric,
After reading your post I examined my slides which I have had for several years and their is no sign of any rusting caused by sweat accumulation. I tend to sweat quite a bit during hard workouts but have never had an issue with sweat getting into the slides. I tend to fling most of the sweat off my elbows in 2 lines just to the outside of my body on each side. I don't have my slides setup right no and since I am doing some construction on the room there is no space but the next time I use them I will watch more carefully.
In the meantime I would go with the Rust-O-Leum to prevent further rusting.

It is usually 70 or below when I row, though occasionally up to 80. I use the slides twice a week on the average.
Most of my perspiration goes right down the middle of the slides, and not close to the wheels. I use a paper towel to wipe it off before hanging them up. Sometimes I use mineral oil to help protect the finishes on the slides and the erg.
I always have two hand towels under the rowing machine, one under the foot rests and another one under the railing. If it's hot then I use the same ones under the slides. This soaks up the perspiration and keeps it from traveling
