Anyone have any experience with modifying the seat for a Model D? I'm thinking that maybe a modified seat would be more comfortable. I've seen some alternate seats that people have built, but I'm thinking about carving into the existing one to reshape it.

(btw, how much does a new seat cost?)

Yes you can make one out of plywood, in two 1/2's with an inch space down the middle, cut outs in back, and layered foam on the top.

A new seat is $11.60, not sure how they stand up to cutting.

$11.60 seems like a good price. Cheaper than buying plywood to construct something new.

Looking at the seat, I can't really tell what is inside. I assume that the saw-dust-and-glue part is a uniform thickness. But the plastic might not be solid -- there might be some ribs inside. And how to cut it? And would cutting destroy the structural integrity?

I want to remove the perineum-smasher raised part on the front of the seat - kind of like the way bicycle seats are made these days.

Yeah I don't understand that raised part on the front.

Someone did cut the seat awhile back and I think it stayed together well.

You could probably just use a hand saw.

Let me know what happens when you do.

I think C2 was experimenting with an adjustable seat top, perhaps give them a call and see if that project is still going and you might be able to test it out.

I don't remember who did it, but once somebody mentioned that he took his C2 seat apart and made two holes or indentations where the sitz bones go, like a boat seat. It was probably the same posting that John referenced. Of course you would want to make the edges gradual.
