I was also wondering about last month. Just before that article came out we had a huge storm. Knocked out power for about 200,000 people. Ours was out for about a day and a half. I still wanted erg that night, so I erged in the dark, no idea for how long I had rowed or the pace, anything. I tried having a candle nearby, but that didn't really help much in illuminating the PM - the flame, and the molten wax, just kept getting blown all over from the fan   . Then a few days later I saw about the Erg Chatter and thought 'that would have been really nice to have had during the power outage.' :)
I also, however, just have Macs at home.

Only if you've got a laptop with enough of a charge left on the battery hooked up to your PM3... a desktop w/o a UPS would still leave you "in the dark" during a power outage.

Yes, I know :? I was assuming that I would be using a laptop. (When are going to get these fans to run our laptops/TVs/... as we erg ? :) )

I believe he meant the fans in the erg (the flywheel), not fans connected to one's PC... as in "when will we be able to harness the energy going into the flywheel to power our laptops/TVs/... while we erg?"
