Rex,

Bad assumption. The monorail is definitely not level and it's made that way. Mine is on a rug with a rough surface so I can't get an exact measurement but it is about 1 3/4" lower at the front of the monorail. You should either check the floor for levelness or run a long straight board from the front foot to the back foot and check that with a level. A little bit off doesn't mean much unless you are using slides. If you are off level with slides you end up bouncing off of the low end as you row.

Frank

PS Since you posted this question in 2 places I also answered it under the "Question on slides" thread.

level seems best

Okay, then what is the factory setting, or race required specification? As far as I can tell the erg works best when the monorail is level.

Thanks,
Rex

The top of the back and front feet should be level, so as Frank suggests, run a long straight board or other rigid object the length of the erg resting on top of the feet, and make sure a bubble level placed on that reads level. At that point you'll be set up as C2's designers intended and your times will be directly comparable.

There are those who advocate propping up one end or the other of the erg for emphasizing the work done in one part of the stroke, and there are some induhviduals who insist that a monorail that is not level is evidence of a design and/or manufacturing defect. Ignore the latter unless you don't believe C2's own people; wait until you've got the stroke properly ingrained and a good base of fitness before fooling around with the former.

It is easy to look at the railing and see if it is relatively level or not.

Or put a level on it and find it.
