Just had an idea the other week to get rid of fitting any of the first gen PM5 battery rear covers to repaired monitors and only get the latest Gen covers.
The first gen PM5 rear case design was not good, any battery leaks and its straight into the board and just about every write off monitor I see is a Gen 1.
Made up some threaded brass inserts on the lathe and soldered them to the board, the Gen 1 front case can be modified by dropping an end mill onto the raised plastic using a drill press where the inserts now sit flush with the bottom of the PCB.
The thread is #4-40 and the the stainless countersunk screws are readily available if you want to stick to the factory threads or else go M3 metric.
Bit of a project for anyone with the gear.
