Model B cage

Post by jennej » February 13th, 2025, 8:23 pm

For a fun project, I picked up an old model B for cheap ($50). It needs a fair amount of cleaning, and the previous owner mentioned that it used to work before it was taken apart...

I poked at it a bit while looking over all the available spare parts, and the chain/sprockets/shockcord seem pretty solid, the greatest wonkiness appeared to be around the cage. I looked over the axle/sprocket replacement sheet so many times I may have accidentally memorized it, but I just had the epiphany that these two rusty pieces are not supposed to be two pieces...

Does anyone know how they are supposed to be attached/have any suggestions on how best to re-attach them?

Welcome to the forum!

If all else fails, give C2 a call - they're super helpful, and try their best to support their very old products as well as they do the newer ones.

Good Luck

the donut piece was originally welded to the flat plate. If you know someone with a welder or if there is a machine shop near you they should be able to re-weld it. Note that the orientation and position is critical! You'll need to clean the paint off to get a good weld. It's possible that it could be bonded, but you'd need the right adhesive and given the forces that are put on this part I wouldn't risk it. I'm not sure if C2 still has any Model B cages but give them a call. Good luck!
