pm5 monitor doesn't power on

Post by obawolo » July 4th, 2024, 12:05 am

after several months of inactivity, the pm5 monitor won't show display/power on. I've tried putting new set of battery, pressed all the buttons (even resetting sequence), rowing, connectd via usb cable to a pc. I am at the dead end. Anyone genius here can help me please ? Or is my monitor dead? It was working perfectly last time.

Try plugging it into a wall charger via the USB-B port.

Best advice is as above, remove the batteries and leave overnight then fit 2 new batteries out of the packet and then update the firmware when it comes back on.

Do not put old batteries in it and preferably even check the brand new batteries with a multimeter first as the D size batteries are getting worse and worse. Got give a torch to fix the other day, hardly gets used and is kept for emergency use only and the Energizer Alkaline batteries with a best fit before date of 2027 were already stuffed.

It now possible that brand new batteries are stuffed straight out of the pack and some fail within months of use.

We are going to see a whole lot of problems with Concept 2 monitors and batteries.

My advice is to Dump the D size batteries, get yourself some 3 x AA to D size adapters from AliExpress and move to better quality AA batteries.

If you then really want to go crazy, go Li-ion AA 1.5V rechargeable's. These have all the charge, discharge smarts built into the tops of them. I suspect they are really a 3.7V battery with built in SMPS limited to 3 Amps max so you get a constant 1.5V output right up until they are flat. Probably need charging once a year. Probably only need to put one in each D holder.
