PM3 C2 D/E Turns off

Hello, I have a C2 D/E with a PM3 monitor. The monitor will turn on when the cable is pulled but not when the menu button is pushed. It will then almost immediately turn off once the fan stops spinning. New batteries have been installed and same issue. Has lifetime 800k or so.

Any solutions other than buying a new retrofit PM5?

Batteries are not making actual connection to the board.

The battery terminals have rust or corrosion on them, possibly where they contact the board inside as well.

If its a 1st Gen PM3 its pretty much had its day anyway, time to get a new PM5.

You don't really need the full retrofit kit, the plastic arm is pretty much the same except for a hole in the top web that you can feed the tach cable through to the other side. Just get a drill and 13mm wood spade bit and drill two holes that are close together through the plastic and remove the rest between the holes with a boxcutter.

Like Carl said. The generator is working and powering the monitor when you row, but the connection from batteries to the board is broken. Take a look at the battery contacts for corrosion, make sure that all the contacts are touching the batteries and the screws are all tight. You may need to take the monitor apart to clean the contact surfaces on the board. Good luck......
