OK, I know the answer is in here, but searches that include the the word "oil" bring up 1000 - 1400 results. I got a used Model D rower. Manual says to use the enclosed oil, but it's long gone. For now I'm a beginner using the rower for 20-30 minute almost every day. So what oil should I get?

Will get some 3-in-1 tomorrow. All I have is WD-40... even I know better than putting that on the chain

More details on how I do it:

(If you don't have one handy you don't have to use a kettlebell to hold the handle, but they are a convenient way to keep the handle extended if you're doing the job alone)

I guess the dry lube or solvent based lube is better than nothing, but I (and C2) wouldn't recommend them. C2 knows that a 20 weight oil works best, and that is what the chain manufacturer calls for.

20W (typically described on the bottle as “heavy”) white mineral oil stocked at pharmacies and supermarkets. Food safe, baby-behind safe, safe to put in your ear canals, removes some gum mastic formulations from pill bottles, decent oil finish for wood (rolling pins, cucina spoons)in a pinch, 2-3 bucks a pint bottle. Dry lubes are for roadies and shredders but prolly OK if you don’t mind the outlay. So yeah what Jon says.
