I can feel a slight click or bump from the chain through the handle as I go back up the monorail near the end of the return, always in the same place. It's not intermittent but constant, and a similar sensation as the seat rollers going over some invisible speck of dust or hair.

The machine is 2 years old with about 2 million metres done and well looked after. The chain is oiled and I can't see anything amiss.

It's not a hindrance and not even really an annoyance but it is noticeable and it wasn't on the previous machine. Has anyone else had this? Is it a harbinger of something cataclysmic, or nothing that matters?

One of the links in the chain is not moving freely, its binding or partially ceased. The sprocket is a small diameter so the chain needs to be able to move quite a bit from the straight position.

Pull the chain out to the position it clicks then more so you can get your hands on the problem area and check each link for range of motion.

Clicks from machinery are usually due to slack fastenings. There's quite a number of screws on the erg and some are subject to the inertial loads we apply.

I also felt bumps at the catch in cold weather, due to the one-way flywheel bearing.
