Hi all,

I have a standard height Model D rowerg. My friend has a Model D with the tall leg frame and I have noticed that his front wheels allow him to easily stand the rowerg upright when not in use. However, when I tried the same maneuver with my erg, I it is clear that this action is not possible as the wheels have a cap over them. Is there a way of putting on aftermarket front wheels without changing to the tall legs (a cost of £200 in the UK).

Maybe include a pic? My model Ds with regular legs stand upright. Mind you, Concept 2 does not recommend this because children or pets or drunks can tip them over, potentially causing serious injury.

I've been standing my regular Model D up since I got it in January, and it's fine. I keep it in the corner of my bedroom and it takes up very little floor space.

I suspect the instructions that you have to break it apart for storage were written by the lawyers. I'm a lawyer myself and I know how they think: the goal is to absolutely prevent anyone getting hurt and suing, even if he's a complete idiot. (Have you noticed that some recent car owner manuals warn you not to drink the battery acid? It's the same mindset). A Model D is a little wobbly when vertical, but it's not going to fall over unless someone crashes into it.

But do you mean you can't make yours stand up vertical? Maybe the front legs are assembled wrong. Here's a picture from the manual:

Is that mechanically even possible? The legs are pretty asymmetrical?

It is.
When the rower in the gym was delivered, they mounted the front leg the wrong direction, so it was standing on the wheelcaps and was shaking like crazy when in use. I asked for the screwdriver to correct it

Right

The three pieces of the front leg assembly on both C's and D's could be assembled wrong as noted in the manual. At some point about 5 years ago a feature was added to the Model D rear flywheel cover that prevented that particular misassembly. People sure can be creative.....

The erg in the gym is quite new, probably 6 month old, so it should have this "feature".
When I recognized the wrong turned front leg I saw that some part of the flywheel cover was jammed with the fixed part of the leg. But even this was not leading to let the person who mounted it, think about it this could possibly be wrong (also seeing that the erg was standing on the wheelcaps and not the stable leg part)

That comes down to the first law of mechanical engineering: if it doesn't fit, use a bigger hammer...
