PM5 switches back ON

Post by HornetMaX » September 12th, 2023, 5:02 am

Hi all,

I've just noticed something unusual on my PM5: when I manually switch it OFF pressing 3-4 times the Menu button, it switches back ON after a few seconds.

I did a firmware update not long ago (a few weeks, can't remember) and I'm 99% sure I haven't seen this behavior in the past 2 years: it switched back on by itself, but it was typically when the wheel was still spinning.

Firmware update aside, nothing changed: I use my smartphone and my HRM monitor exactly as before. As I've read that this may be due to a BT connection pinging the PM5, I tried switching BT off on my phone (and detaching the HRM from the belt, which should let it switch off), but the PM5 still comes ON by itself. Also, my SkiErg doesn't seem to have the issue on its PM5.

Not a huge deal as after a few minutes it switches off by itself, but still ...

Any idea ?

Any chance the flywheel is still spinning? It keeps spinning quite long (up to three minutes), and a spinning flywheel can turn on a PM5.

No, no chance. I triple checked it was still because I knew it can come back on if still spinning (that I noticed even in the past).

Try just press and hold the menu button until it goes off.

Will do, thx. Just done my session and today the problem didn't show up: I switched it off as always and this time it stayed off

It's 4 presses to switch it off.
3 presses will leave it active.
5 presses will start it up again.

But Nick's suggestion to press and hold until it times out is better, if it works.

Weird, it didn't happen again since.

I suspect one of my cars was not locked and its BT may have been pinging the PM5 waking it up. Or something :)
