Hi all.

I am such a big fan of my erg and bike-erg that I bought a used Model D, an older one (2004) with a PM3, for my son. However he's a confirmed gym and weights guy, didn't use the rower, so gave it back to me and I'm going to put it up for sale. I would like to list the lifetime meters in my ad, because I'm a very honest guy--the rower looks used but certainly not abused. The directions on the site here say to scroll to Utilities>Product ID>Information>More Information, but there's no such final screen on this PM3, which is probably running very old firmware; it's Version 82 FWIW.

The information screen has Info for: Loader, Application, Font, Screen, and then Hardware.
Under Hardware are two long numbers:

Is the second one the lifetime meters for the erg with this PM3 (assuming never reset)? The 2B seems unlikely!

Thats ancient firmware and it needs to be updated twice to get it on the last version made for it which in 108.

The Odometer is unreliable anyway as it only adds rows that have a set time or distance, Just Rows never get added.

Firmware updates Zero the Odometer as well.

You have to go V82 to V101 and then V108 using two different update utilities and its a bit risky to be honest unless you have done them before.

The later firmware has TWO product ID screens and the Odo is on the 2nd screen.

If the logcard hasn't been erased it might give a better clue of total meters.

I had a PM3 from 2003 (first released) through 2022 and in the early years it would reset when battery dead/removed. More recent versions remember even through hard power down but everything before that is lost. I always used the same logcard, but had to erase it to make space circa 2011. I have only a vague idea of what it was then -- maybe 5 million. Recently I went through my logcard and paper log and updated Concept2 log as well as I could.

I replaced the PM3 (to be able to do ergathlons with my Ski Erg and Bike Erg) in 2022. Rower now has (estimated) 10 million metres with no maintenance other than chain oiling (a couple of times a year) and opening the fan shroud to clean it (once in 20 years). Works perfectly.

People seldom have a logcard in the monitor and for me it would only hold about 12 months of data anyway so I used to format it on the 1st May every year at the start of the season.

People try and use the total meters as an indication of how much use the rower as had but you are far better looking at the slide and rollers and the chain to see how well it has been maintained. Properly maintained it pretty much goes for 20 years with nothing more than a change of shock cord every 10 years.

The monitor is the least reliable part, mainly because people put cheap batteries in them and then they leak. If you only put quality Alkaline batteries in the monitor it will go and go.
