What is a Model D/E?

Last week on vacation I was working out on a C2 at a gym there, and I noticed it was a Model "D/E." It looked identical to my Model D (and it had a PM3 performance monitor). Can anybody tell me what the differences are, if any?

If it had a PM3 (not 5) and looked like a Model D then it was a Model D. Up to a couple of years ago C2 made the D (which you say you have), and the E which was very similar, but had taller legs and a fixed PM arm. The moving parts were all identical, but the E cost about £100 more than the D. There was no D/E model but a couple of years back they slightly altered the design so that there is now just one model Rowerg which as standard comes in just like the old D but now has the option to buy taller legs for it. There is no longer a fixed PM arm. Depending where you saw the D/E label, it could just be on the PM as that was the same bit of kit for both D and E model ergs. The PM4 was introduced in 2006 and the PM5 in 2014 so the erg you were using is quite old.

The PMs (PM3, PM4 & PM5) need to distinguish which rower/skier*/bike* they're connected to.

For the rowers there are eight models (A, B, C, D1, D2, E, dynamic & rowerg). The "A" gets a choice, the "B/C" get a choice and "D/E" get a choice. The D1, D2, E dynamic and rowerg all fall into the "D/E" category (which is based on the flywheel sensor).

*I'm ignoring skiergs & bikeergs.

Small piece of trivia: I believe the Model D never had the PM4; only the Model E (maybe Dynamic). I bought a D new from C2 in 2003 and another in 2013 and they both had PM3.

[Edit: When it doubt, consult an authority:

Standard on Model E Indoor Rowers from 2006–2014
Was optional on
Model D Indoor Rowers from 2006–2014
Dynamic Indoor Rowers from 2010–2014
SkiErgs from 2009–2014
