Concept2 iOS16 Firmware Update not working

Hey,

we have a Concept2 PM5 at home and in our app, it shows that we need to update the firmware.

Now: I am actually quite good with computers, but I could not manage to update it today. I tried via USB Stick (I have a mac, and first formated the USB Stick to FAT via DISK Utility). Then I used the Concept2 Utlility Application to transfer the udpate onto the stick. But whenever I plugged the stick, the Rowing Machine only thought I wanted the stick for a logbook and never recognized the firmware update.

I am a bit frustrated. Anyone has experience with it?

Thanks a lot for your help!
Mark

Use the C2 Utility with a USB printer cable (USB-A to USB-B).

For USB stick, you have to use a small one. " USB 2.0 or USB 3.1 flash drive that is 16GB or smaller, and it must be formatted to FAT or FAT32 (not exFAT or NTFS)."

Check the info panel on the PM5, others have reported failing USB loads only to discover the PM5 is at the new FW level.

I use the printer cable as above, think this is the best way if you have a laptop.

There is another way to update firmware. I've never used it, some say its works. Install Concept2's ErgRace Online program on your phone. https://www.concept2.com/service/softwa ... ompetitors Start it up. Forums say that ergrace online will discover you are backlevel on PM5 firmware and will update the firmware over bluetooth.

Good luck.

I had the exact same issue just today. Plugging in the usb stick would not recognize the update. My PM5 has v211 firmware but 254 is the latest.

I connected my mac to the PM5 and tried to update through the cable. The PM5 reported that it already had the latest firmware at 211.

I chatted with support and they clarified that the latest firmware version is related to the hardware version. In my case, v211 is the latest for my new RowErg’s PM5. You may have a similar situation going on. Admittedly. the hardware version thing, as listed on the C2 website isn’t very clear.

It would be great to get some input from C2 and finally resolve this issue. I’ve updated PM5 on RowERG multiple times over Bluetooth since late 2022. It keeps updating from v211 to v211. Did it again today. Anyone have a resolution? It doesn’t seem to have any negative impact.

Mine has a hardware version 903 and doesn’t go above firmware 211. I bought my rowing machine on Nov. 2020. I’m guessing Concept2 is rolling newer PM5 hardware that can install firmware 254.

If you want some help from C2 then you need to contact them. Try info@concept2.com - they're usually really helpful.

If I read concept2 firmware page correctly (here), v211 is the most recent for your PM5.

It's a bit confusing, but I think each line in the table is a different "branch" (hardware version of the PM5 ?).
If you are on, let's say, v205 you're on the "branch" that goes from v200 to v211, with v211 being the latest for your "branch".
You you should update to v211. But if you're already on v211, there's nothing to update to.

That’s correct. Here is the response from Concept2 customer service:

Firmware version 211 is the most current version of firmware available for your PM5 (hardware 903).

The firmware range numbers below the word "RowErg" are the range of possible (not even released yet) firmware for your PM5. As we release new firmware versions in the future, they will go as high as 249 for your version, but for now we are only up to 211 (the current release in the middle column).
