Hydrow App Integration

Post by jds5900 » January 8th, 2023, 10:44 am

As a NEWBIE I’ve been quite satisfied with the features of the ErgData App. It seamlessly integrates with the PM5 and syncs data to the Logbook. However, the Hydrow App is intriguing. It, however costs $20 monthly, and if I’m correct DOES NOT CONNECT to PM5 or input data to the Logbook. Am I correct? I really love the Hydrow content but the apparent lack of automatic Logbook integration or PM5 connectivity are deal killers for me. The $20 monthly subscription fee is also an issue. Any thoughts? Any BETTER ErgData alternatives? I should probably stop whining and simply enjoy the FREE and AWESOME ErgData App. Thank you!

Hydrow makes its own hardware, so they might not play nice with their biggest competitor and give up one of their competative advantages.

Their are other apps, like RowPro and EXR, but they do cost money and might not do what you are looking for.

I highly recommend Ergzone as an alternative.

Thank you. I’m evaluating ErgZone+ as we speak.

ErgZone is definitely IMO an improvement over ErgData. Both are very good app choices though. Thank you for the recommendation. ErgZone will be my rowing app of choice, that is until the Hydrow App subscription drops to around $10 per month and it integrates FULLY with Concept 2 hardware and software. PEACE.

+1 for ErgZone.

I used to be on ErgData (previous version) bat at the time it had some connectivity issues with recent android versions (since solves, very likely).
The new ErgData is nice too, I just prefer the way ErgZone allows you to organize your favorite workouts.
Bit of a bummer that some metrics are only available in ErgZone+ (reasonable subscription) but yeah, one can live without (or pay for).

If it was a one-off payment I'd have already gone for it: I just can't swallow the idea of having to pay a monthly fee to be able to see my, say, stroke length.

I also discovered late yesterday evening that the Hydro App does NOT offer DISTANCE ROWS, only TIMED ROWS. That is a DEAL KILLER for me and a feature that should be STANDARD in the $20 subscription price. For me, for now, ErgZone is the clear favorite. Thank you all for your input.

Ergzone struck me as great with analytics, but not about the motivation and simulation of outdoor workouts.

The thing I like about Hydrow is the videos and the ability to follow the hands of somebody rowing on the water as I sit in my basement, reminding me of my days when I was rowing on the water.

I also just found out that they have made the Hydrow app communicate with the PM5, and I logged my first meters into Hydrow's website.

I love my C2 erg, and have serious doubts about the maintenance requirements of a Hydrow rower. So the fact that now you can connect to a PM5 on a C2 and the Hydrow workout videos is great news. Like Kennedy's quip about a Harvard education and a Yale Degree (I have neither, unless you count time spent in the steam tunnels under Yale as part of my OTJ education in flow measurement).
